Why Christian Theology DEMANDS Nuance

When false teachers want to cast doubt on God's word, they often claim that a subject needs to be nuanced and as a result Nuance has become a dirty word to some, a synonym for compromise. And yet we all know that at some level all good theology demands nuance, the parsing out of finer details.

The Need for Nuance in Theology

Not to obscure the truth, but to clarify it. Consider the Trinity. God is both three and one. How do you explain the glory of the Trinity without subtle, careful, and extended distinctions of theological nuance?

Scripture is clear, but our ability to articulate the truths therein may not be. And so we must slow down to find terms, ask questions, and then check and double-check everything against the truth of God's word.
