Opening the Christmas Eve Service with John 1

All right good evening everyone. If you would come indoors inside here and find a place and have a seat. We're going to get started with our service tonight. Welcome to our Christmas Eve service. I'm going to begin by reading from the Gospel of John the first chapter.

I'm going to read verses 1 through 5 and then verses 14 through 18. The Gospel of John chapter 1. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.

All things came into being through him and apart from him nothing came into being that has come into being. In him was life and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not comprehend it.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us and we saw his glory. Glory as of the only begotten from the Father full of grace and truth. John testified about him and cried out saying this was he of whom I said he who comes after me has a higher rank than I for he existed before me.

For of his fullness we have all received and grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father he has explained him.

Prayer for the Birth of Christ and the Incarnation

Let's pray together. Our Father we gather here together to celebrate the birth of Christ the great miracle of the incarnation that the second person of the Holy Trinity took upon himself flesh and came here to live a perfect life and to die in our stead.

That is what Christmas is. That is what we celebrate. That is what we thank you for. We pray that tonight you would fill our hearts with love and wonder and joy and adoration toward the Lord Jesus Christ whom we worship whom we love and whom we wait for from heaven.

For it is in his name that we pray. Amen.

Matthew 1 and the Virgin Birth of Jesus

Mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit. And Joseph her husband being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her planned to send her away secretly.

But when he had considered this behold an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream saying Joseph son of David do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife for the child who was who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

She will bear a son and you shall call his name Jesus for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet. Behold the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a son and they shall call his name Emmanuel which translated means God with us.

And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel the Lord commanded him and took Mary as his wife but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a son.

And he called his name Jesus while by the sheep we watched at night.
