Can A Christian Have Joy Knowing That Death Is Certain? (Part 3)

00:01
Welcome to No Compromise Radio, a ministry coming to you from Bethlehem Bible Church in West Boylston.
00:08
No Compromise Radio is a program dedicated to the ongoing proclamation of Jesus Christ, based on the theme in Galatians 2, verse 5, where the
00:16
Apostle Paul said, But we did not yield in subjection to them for even an hour, so that the truth of the gospel would remain with you.
00:24
In short, if you like smooth, watered -down words to make you simply feel good, this show isnt for you.
00:30
By purpose, we are first biblical, but we can also be controversial. Stay tuned for the next 25 minutes as were called by the
00:37
Divine Trumpet to summon the troops for the honor and glory of her King. Heres our host, Pastor Mike Abendroth.
00:44
Welcome to No Compromise Radio, a ministry. Mike Abendroth, good to have you here listening.
00:51
I have been negligent in the past to say that Im thankful that were on KAGV1110AM in Anchorage, Alaska, and I am also happy to be on Powell, Wyomings station out of Trinity Bible Church, KFGR.
01:13
You can tell both of those are on the West Coast because they start with K, versus the
01:19
Ws here in New England. What is going on here? We have the new book on assurance,
01:26
No Condemnation. That should be out really soon. You can get that on Amazon. Well put the links on the website once thats up and going.
01:33
Israel trip, if you want to go February 21st, a 9 -10 day trip, you can email me for the brochure and registration and send in your $500 to Bethlehem Bible Church, earmarked
01:45
Israel 2023. Wed love to have you go with myself and Pat Abendroth of the Pactamon Omaha Bible Church, working on another book about a theological pilgrimage with the first chapter on the
01:58
Heidelblog called From Lordship to Law Gospel. You can go to Heidelblog and get that there. My friend
02:03
Scott Clark put that up there. What else? Sometimes people ask me what I listen to for podcasts.
02:10
I listen to one secular podcast, and thats Victor Davis Hanson. Thats the only one I listen to. And then the podcast
02:17
I listen to regularly, I listen to Pactam with Pat Abendroth, Heidelcast with Clark, Scott Clark, R.
02:28
Scott Clark. His wife and my family, my moms side, are from the same town,
02:36
Holdridge, Nebraska. On the freeway there, theyve got something called Pioneer Village, and we would stop off and see the
02:44
Pioneer stuff. I wonder if they still have Pioneer Village these days. I listen to John Fonville, Him We Proclaim.
02:51
I listen to Chris Gordon, Abounding Grace. I listen to John Harris, Conversations That Matter.
03:04
I listen to the Jim Renahan deal, the Reformed Baptist deal. Whats that called? As a matter of fact,
03:09
Im just going to pull this up right now, and Im going to go to Listen Now, See All.
03:17
What is that thing called? I dont even know, but its Jim Renahans theology something.
03:24
On here is Reformed Forum, I listen to. Theocast with my friend John Moffat, I listen to that.
03:29
I listen to the Presbycast. Im behind on Presbycast.
03:36
I listen tohuh, I think thats about it. I have listened to The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill.
03:43
Sometimes I listen to Two -Age Sojourner, but Im behind that. And of course, my friends over at Back to the
03:48
Reformation, I listen to them. I almost forgot. Uh -oh. London in the Lyceum, once in a while. Oh, there it is. Theology in particular.
03:56
Renahan, Jim Renahan. Hes going to be on the show here sometime soon. I listen to Credo Podcast with Matthew Barrett. I listen towhat else?
04:06
I think thats it. Thats who I listen to. Once in a while, I listen to Hardcore History with Dan Carlin.
04:12
Thats the other secular show. But if youre wondering, thats the scoop. Talking today about Ecclesiastes.
04:20
How do you get through this world thats just chaos, that just doesnt fulfill, that is just tainted by the fall?
04:31
Well, weve seen that you enjoy everything from Gods good hand if youre a Christian and you think everything is through the work of the
04:38
Father sending the Son applied by the Spirit. Were thinking in a Trinitarian fashion. You then, chapter 3, thats the first two chapters of chapter 3, verse 1 to 15, you think about Gods sovereignty here in poetic form.
04:51
God is sovereign time, time, time, time. Hes sovereign over all the times. And then you expect
04:57
Gods going to judge. And you expect eternal life. Thats in this section here, 3 .16 and following.
05:03
The preachers preaching to himself. And hes like, oh, you know what? Theres injustice. That too is in vanity.
05:09
No, he didnt say that. Theres injustice where there should be justice. Hes thinking of the courts.
05:15
In court, there should be justice and theres not. So, that too is vanity.
05:21
But instead, he says, but you know what? Gods going to judge. God is going to judge. God will judge, verse 17, both the righteous man and the wicked man, for a time for every matter and for every deed is there.
05:34
And therefore, like Jesus, who in 1 Peter 2 entrusted himself to God who judges justly, we do the same thing.
05:41
We say, you know what, Father? We know youll judge. We know that youre going to make every wrong right.
05:48
And we know sometimes that judgment will be in this lifetime. Sometimes itll be after we die.
05:54
Or sometimes itll be at the ultimate judgment. But theres a time. The preacher preaches to himself.
06:00
Shouldnt we do that often? We should preach to ourself and say, enjoy what you can now as from Gods good gift.
06:05
You dont deserve anything. Look at all you get. Even though life is hard and theres difficulties, you still get some wonderful things.
06:12
And you think, you know what? Theres no rhyme or reason to this world, but Im going to have to walk by faith and not by sight.
06:18
Gods sovereign. Im going to have to look at everything through the sovereign hand of God. I had to do that this week in my own life, thinking, you know what?
06:25
Im sinning when I dont do that. Im not living a holy life when I do that. I want to do that. Isnt that the desire of every
06:30
Christian? Right? You think Id like to live a holy life. I want to walk in a manner worthy of my calling.
06:37
Do my critics not hear me when I say that? Are my critics not listening to me? Robert Trail wrote a chapter on the charge of antinomianism not sticking.
06:50
I think some people need to probably read that. If I dont have a certain view, then somehow
06:55
Im an antinomian. Thats kind of a heinous charge actually to bring up when theres no foundation for that charge.
07:05
What do we do? Theres a time for every matter and every work. Its kind of like Revelation 6 .10.
07:12
They cried out with a loud voice, O sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth ?
07:23
I mean, hes going to judge now very often, in a little bit very often, and ultimately always.
07:31
Were under the sun. Things are chaotic, but theres going to be judgment. Think about what our
07:38
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ said in John 5. Truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life.
07:49
He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. Truly, truly,
07:55
I say to you, an hour is coming, and now hear, when the dead will hear the voice of the
08:03
Son of God. Id said that wrong. Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now hear, when the dead will hear the voice of the
08:13
Son of God, and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the
08:20
Son also to have life in himself. And he has given him, the
08:25
Son, authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man.
08:31
Jesus said, Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming, when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out, and those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.
08:47
Thats our Lord and Savior, remember? And he came to seek and save. He knew judgment was coming.
08:53
He understands judgment, and therefore hes on a love mission. The Father loves sinners. The Son loves sinners.
08:59
The Holy Spirit loves sinners. One essence, one nature, one will, three persons, they all love sinners, one
09:06
God. And now the Father, the unbegotten Father, as it were, dispatches the begotten
09:14
Son, and both the Father and the Son send the Spirit. And we watch with great joy what the
09:25
Son has accomplished as he fulfills the work of the Father, and the Spirit now dwells in our hearts.
09:32
Its wonderful when you think about it. Judgment is going to come, though, but weve already been judged. How can we have eternal life if we know were sinners and we have sinned, we do sin?
09:42
How do we not come into judgment, but pass from death to life? I mean, is God unjust? Well, no, because Jesus has paid for our sins.
09:48
Jesus paid it all, all to him I owe. I sang last time, so I sing again. Jesus, no,
09:54
I dont. Jesus paid it all. I start off on the wrong key.
10:03
Acts 17, 31, Because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed, and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.
10:13
You want to know if theres going to be judgment? Jesus is alive to judge. Hes alive.
10:19
The resurrection confirms it all. See, Im just, all my hopes and trusts are in the nine -person
10:28
Supreme Court justice in America, the 13 -person, the 15 -person, five to four advantage on liberals and conservatives and liberals, or six -three, or what if somebody dies, and what about all this stuff?
10:42
No, no. Theres a promise from God. Genesis 18, 25, Shall not the judge of all the earth do what is just and right ?
10:52
Solomon even knew it. He says at the end of the book in chapter 12 of Ecclesiastes, God will bring every deed into judgment with every secret thing, whether good or evil.
11:03
I mean, of course, the good shepherd is going to make sure he judges, takes care of his people, and he brings final justice, final judgment.
11:12
The Lord whos holy and true is going to do that. So, to reinforce that ultimate justice,
11:20
I want to fast forward to the book of Revelation in Revelation chapter 19, drop my phone, and show you the ultimate judgment day.
11:32
For the Christian, were safe, safe and secure from all alarms. So safe, you should probably get that new book on No Compromise No Condemnation.
11:43
Any guesses on how many we wont sell? With Sexual Fidelity, I just ordered 2 ,000.
11:50
They were sent to my house, and then I had to ship them out. Were not doing that. Were doing the evangelical white lies version.
11:58
You know, have you ever written a book and then thought, I need to revise that and make it more gospel -centered, to make it more law gospel -centered?
12:07
Yes, every single book I wrote. Who has time for that?
12:14
I dont have any time to correct my old mistakes. I just tell you now, on June 11th,
12:20
Saturday, 3 .30 p .m. 2022, the things that I taught in the past, eternal functional subordination,
12:28
I repent. I dont teach that anymore. It was wrong. It was a sin. Um, what else?
12:36
You know, every other thing. Not good law gospel distinctions. Not motivation to obey with guilt, grace, gratitude.
12:44
And not duplex gratia. You know, the list goes on and on. I repent. I confess it right now.
12:53
So, read all my other stuff in light of that, this current confession, right? The good news about not being very famous, not being famous at all, is nobody really cares.
13:05
They look at my old books, okay, whatever. Revelation 19, justice and judgment.
13:13
Sometimes theres justice in this world. Everybody dies, though, and its appointed for man once to die, and then what?
13:25
Theres God is true, and beside Him theres no Savior, and beside Him theres no ultimate judge.
13:36
If He says something, its going to be true, and its going to happen. And this
13:41
God in Ecclesiastes, Elohim, the sovereign creator, Hes going to do whats right.
13:47
So, we fast forward to Revelation to look at this a little bit, and theres a lot of hallelujahs going on. You ever say hallelujah?
13:54
Theres a lot of hallelujahs going on. Number one hallelujah found in verse 1 of Revelation 19, After this
14:03
I heard what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven crying out, Hallelujah !
14:09
Hallel, praise, Yah, Yahweh, praise to Yahweh, Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our
14:16
God. I mean, Hes such a Savior, so glorious, so powerful, hallelujah.
14:22
Have you ever said hallelujah to God for that? God, youre a great Savior, youre powerful, and youre full of glory.
14:29
Theres another hallelujah. Verse 2, this is more related to our
14:34
Ecclesiastes discussion, For His judgments are true and just. For He has judged the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her immorality and has avenged on her the blood of His servants.
14:47
Once more they cried out, Hallelujah ! The smoke from her goes up forever and ever.
14:55
Hallelujah for judgment. Who would think, you know, hallelujah for Gods powerful,
15:00
Gods glorious, Gods a Savior, but now hallelujah for just judgment?
15:06
Yes, amen. Every real Christian knows that, even unbelievers with the law of God written on their heart knows that this would be right.
15:15
Another hallelujah. Verses 4 and 5, And the twenty -four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped
15:22
God, who was seated on the throne, saying, Amen! Hallelujah! And from the throne came a voice saying, Praise our
15:30
God, all you His servants, you who fear Him, small and great.
15:37
God, youre so great. Youre so wonderful. Everybodys saying hallelujah, not even here for anything that Hes done, but for who
15:48
He is. For who He is. Write that down now, for who
15:55
He is. Fourth hallelujah. I wonder what theyre going to praise
16:01
God for here. I wonder what we should praise God for. Then I heard Revelation 19 6, What seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters, and like the sound of mighty pearls of thunder, crying out, Hallelujah !
16:17
Now were going to learn why Hes to be praised. For the Lord our God, the Almighty reigns.
16:24
Isnt that good? The Almighty, nine times used in the book of Revelation. Hes so powerful,
16:31
He can reign. Itd be one thing if you wanted to be sovereign and control everything, but you didnt have the power, but youre going to have to have power if youre going to be sovereign.
16:41
Praise God for that. Now we move to a marriage announcement.
16:47
I officiated a wedding last week, and all eyes on the bride. All eyes on the bride, even when were doing rehearsal.
16:55
I know the mans the man, and the mans the head of the household, but theres no household yet because theyre not married, and so I want the bride to be happy, the bride to be.
17:02
What do you think about this? Should we stand here, spacing there? Here, though, focus of attention, the groom.
17:11
Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and his bride has made herself ready.
17:18
It was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure, for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.
17:29
Shes received this. Shes been granted this. Angel said to me, Write this.
17:36
Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he said to me, These are the true words of God.
17:45
I fell down on his feet to worship him, but he said, You must not do that. Im a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus.
17:52
Worship God. Get up. I just had the get up part. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
18:04
Now we come to the day, that day. Luther said theres two days in his calendar, today and that day,
18:13
Judgment Day. Here it comes. One man said of this section of the book of Revelation that its almost too glorious for exposition.
18:22
Heres the return of Christ. No donkeys, no humility, no eyes with tears, no thorns for a crown, no nakedness with shame.
18:39
Its going to be exactly opposite. This passage is a warrior passage. This passage is the king passage.
18:47
This passage is chilling, clear. Solomon knew there was going to be a time for judgment.
18:57
And we see it right here. Then I saw heaven opened,
19:03
Revelation 19, 11, and behold, a white horse. The one sitting on it is called faithful and true, and in righteousness he judges and wages war.
19:20
Heaven gets opened, and the language is its open and it stays open, stays open.
19:29
Who is this? Well, Revelation 1 told us hes coming with the clouds and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over him, even so, amen.
19:38
The Lord Jesus is returning, and hes on a white horse of this conquering, victorious triumph.
19:49
Son of David bringing, no, not salvation as he rides into Jerusalem, but bringing judgment on the great white charger, animal of warfare.
20:02
This is all Roman triumphal procession language when the general comes back into the main street of Rome.
20:10
Who is it who sits on this horse? His name is faithful and true. He did say he would judge, and now judgments happening.
20:18
You can trust him. Everything about him is right. Hes keeping his promises, yes and amen, and in righteousness he judges and wages war.
20:34
Gods wrath is against sinners. Its true. His eyes are like a flame of fire.
20:43
On his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. When you see eyes flame of fire, when you see this piercing, penetrating gaze, its judgment.
20:59
Its judgment, fierce gaze, penetrating gaze.
21:08
He sees everything. No more stacked courts, no more paid off judges.
21:14
No, no. He sees it all, and hes the king too.
21:20
Hes got many diadems on his head. No more thorns. And in those days, if you were superior, you dont have to tell people your name.
21:31
Thats the idea here. Hes got greater authority. Hes supreme. He just knows his name.
21:38
Hes clothed with a robe, verse 13, dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is the word of God.
21:45
This isnt blood from Calvary. This is blood thats going to be spilled. This is in anticipation.
21:52
This is the warrior who slaughters, blood sloshing, blood splashing.
22:02
Isaiah 63, why is your apparel red and your garments like the one who treads in the wine press? I have trodden the wine trough alone, and from the peoples there was no man with me.
22:13
I also trod them in my anger and trampled them in my wrath, and their lifeblood is sprinkled on my garments, and I stained all my raiment.
22:25
Do you notice? White, white, white, white, white, white, white, blood. White horse, white saints.
22:35
Saints horses are white. Clouds white. Blood. And hes called the word of God.
22:47
The armies of heaven are raided in white linen, fine linen, white and pure. Were following him on white horses.
22:53
See, everythings white. They dont have any swords because they dont need to.
23:01
Theyre behind the king. Clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
23:06
This reminds me of 2 Thessalonians 1, 7. And to give relief to you who are afflicted, and to us as well, when the
23:12
Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron.
23:22
He will tread the wine press of the fury of the wrath of God, the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh, he has a name written.
23:32
King of kings and Lord of lords. When you look at a rider on a horse, whats at eye level? His thigh.
23:37
Heres his name. King of kings and Lord of lords. And please spare me that Jesus has got a tattoo on his leg.
23:44
Thats not the point here. Judgments coming. So, lets back up because times flying by.
23:51
You live in this world. It seems so unfair. People get off the hook for things that they did.
23:58
People didnt do things and theyre on the hook. It seems like everythings crazy. Even the
24:03
Supreme Court makes bad decisions. Maybe theres some corrupt people on the Supreme Court. You never know whats going on in the minds of all these people.
24:12
But one day theres going to be judgment. So, now were living this life and we go, Okay, I can leave that to God. I can pray for judgment.
24:18
I can pray for righteousness. I can pray for justice, but I dont have to enact it. I dont have to exact it.
24:25
I dont have to say I cant sleep at night if I cant see it happening right before my very eyes because it is inevitable and it will be an ultimate judgment.
24:34
It just might not be right now. So, my names Mike Abendroth. This is No Compromise Radio Ministry.
