Jesus The King - Jet Tour Of Matthew (part 1)

Well, we had a great canoe trip yesterday. It was a father-son canoe trip, and I had the privilege of having Blake and Tom Shepherd. Are you guys here today by the way? Yeah, a ride in our car and just good to have the guys together and we were driving quite a distance down into, Connecticut so I Spun the iPod over to the Beach Boys Barbara Ann and next thing you know late Blake and Luke are in the back seat singing ba ba ba and about An hour later Blake would just go into it again ba ba ba and began to sing and it was just a great time we paddled for about an hour and a half and then we came to a lunch spot and Blake and I were getting to know each other a little bit and and so Blake would come up to me.

I guess he knew I was the the leader and the pastor and he would tug on my lapel even though I was not wearing a suit. I'm tugging on my my lifejacket and He kept doing this Pointing downstream. He was communicating to me in his Half sign language half Blake sign language way, and I knew he wanted something.

But I didn't really know what he wanted and so I said to Tom. What does this mean? He kept he keeps doing this pointing that way and and doing this and Tom said this means more and so we were going down all these rapids and going down these canoe areas and Blake was just Loving every minute of it.

Did you like it Blake? Yeah, he did and it was so wonderful. And so we're supposed to be having lunch now. And so the guys are playing frisbee and we're all hanging out and Blake just kept coming up to me.

After many times just doing more and more I said, well, we will go. He couldn't stand it any longer. So he put his lifejacket back on and just sat on the in the canoe. Just up on shore, but he's in the canoe ready.

The Desire for More of Christ and His Word

I just want to do that more. I thought what a great picture of The people of God who have been given the desire by his spirit to want more Bible teaching to want more of the Lord Jesus Christ to hear him high and exalted proclaimed.

I have the privilege every week of preaching for 50 minutes 60 minutes 70 minutes and even today well the truth and you have been Changed by God on the inside to desire truth. One of the reasons I know I'm a Christian is because before I got saved I did my duty at church and I just kind Of threw out the bone for God.

But then when God grabs a heart and seals it and changes it all of a sudden you used to hate preaching. But now you love it. You used to love sin. But now you you don't like it when you do and in the heart of every true Christian.

There is a desire for more preaching. More of the Word of God more to see Christ exalted. So if you'll turn your Bibles to the book of Matthew this morning I want to give you through Holy Scripture more so much so that this week and maybe next week I'm going to preach through the entire book of Matthew the jet tour through the book of Matthew.

I've convinced you that you want more and here comes the more. Well, we've had our 10-week series on election. We have not been in the book of Matthew for about Six months or so because of special events and other things and so as I got into Matthew I felt myself pulling back a little bit saying looking at this from the big picture is necessary before I dive right back into 5 43 through 47 in other words as I began to look at it I thought I can't really see what Matthew's trying to say unless I know what Matthew is saying in the big picture.

Understanding what his flow was and his purpose and his thoughts and I thought in my own heart as I study Matthew 543 what I need is an overview of Matthew. I need to understand the whole book big picture.

Then I can look at look at all the parts and I thought if that is good for me to understand. It is my desire as I preach for you to understand what I'm saying. Doesn't do any good if I just use a bunch of words and somehow talk about big things that we don't understand.

I want the congregation to know and so I studied this week the book of Matthew from chapter 1 to 28. I Just kept thinking this is the greatest Gospel ever written. It might be the first gospel written, but it is so great because it shows Jesus as King.

We don't have many monarchs these days and even with Queen Elizabeth the second in the United States this last week. There are different kind of monarchies. There are Traditional monarchies that kind of don't allow the king or queen to have a whole lot of power.

There are constitutional monarchies that really control what the Queen or King does and they end up being just like Queen Elizabeth. Figure heads they can't do much. They don't have much power. They are monarchs by name only.

But the book of Matthew the book of Matthew shows Jesus as the king not constitutional monarch not traditional monarch but what we call the absolute monarch. Jesus is King and And basically Matthew says behold here is your king matter of fact He's the king of kings and the Lord of lords and with Spurgeon today.

I say quote and we proclaim an enthroned God and His right to do as he wills. Doesn't that make sense here? We have the book of of Ephesians and our election series for ten weeks God is able and willing to do whatever he wants with his People and then we move right into the book of Matthew that shows this enthroned King the book of Matthew and Never will Matthew lets you get out of the focus of your mind that Jesus is King.

That is the main concern of Matthew. Jesus is King. If you want to know what the theme of Matthew is you could probably guess Jesus is King if your kids are writing little tick marks on the important words that I say today I have one important word and that is King.

I've said it 15 times a day and I'll probably say it 50 more Jesus is King and in your mind. It should already be churning that if he's King then there are certain Responses that should be do him if I live in his kingdom.

Then he expects certain things and demands certain things in the book of Matthew with laser like determination. This author the Apostle Matthew shows Jesus is King. He exercises his dominion in an unchecked fashion.

If you look at Matthew 21 verse 5, it might even be the best summary verse of the entire 28 chapters. Matthew 21 5 behold your King is coming to you and that's basically what Matthew is trying to say in the whole book.

Here is your King. Here's the King and it would be good to understand the King before we hear his words in Matthew 5 6 and 7. With a megaphone Matthew shouts out this monarch Jesus Christ of Nazareth is King he is in fact Yahweh God Himself and even 32 times in the book of Matthew found nowhere else the kingdom of heaven is repeated 32 times the kingdom of heaven the kingdom of heaven and to have a kingdom you have to have a King.

Here is the great King and Everyone in Israel would know and as Matthew is writing to these Jewish people They would be familiar with kings when they they would have a background of kings and and what that would mean and how the other Countries the Canaanites and the Philistines and the Edomites and and the Midianites and Moabites.

They all had kings, but we want a king now too and God granted them a king and his name was Saul many other kings had come and have gone and Here we come to the book of Matthew and it's talking of Christ's birth and his his greatness and He's going to say I'm going to show you the real King.

Here's the real King that I want to show you. These were all just prefigurements of the King with Saul and David and Solomon. But here is the real King and if you were a Jew and someone said to you Jesus is the real King the Old Testament would start flashing through your mind with verses like this Isaiah 9 6 for a child will be born to us a son will be given to us.

And the government will rest on his shoulders. His name will be called wonderful counselor mighty God eternal father prince of peace there will be no end to the increase of his government our peace on the throne of David and over his kingdom give us a king.

Rome has taken over and we want our Messiah and we want the king and The writer of Matthew is saying you've missed the king and let me show you now this king in written form. The Jews would be thinking about Psalm 2 but as for me God says I have installed my King they think of Zechariah.

Yes in chapter 6 It is he who will build the temple of his Lord and he will bear the honor and sit and rule on his throne. Here the book of Matthew showing with great prophetic insight that Jesus is Messiah.

Jesus is the Jewish king and The people yelled we want a king and now God in his goodness and his righteousness delivers the king Jesus Christ who perfectly reigns over his people and the universe. He may be a prophet.

Yes. He may be a priest. Yes, but he is also a king and so basically what we're going to do today. And maybe next week as well. We'll see how it goes, but you already know how it goes. We are going to look at The book of Matthew with the purpose to show you the overall scope so you can see Jesus as king.

So then when you come into chapter 5 you can say oh, this is the manifesto of the king. This is what the king expects. This is what the king says. 28 chapters of evidence to show that Jesus is King and he has priority the Jewish King.

Every historical theme every theological theme in Matthew all points to one direction and that Direction is he is the king. Let's go to chapter 1 and basically I've got about 14 points today and so for those that believe in three points in a poem I don't know what to tell you but I've got 14 and It's not going to take as long as a 20 question series did you see they're gonna be done in a week or two weeks?

And we'll be back into Matthew chapter 5. Chapter 1 talks about this Kings pedigree the Kings pedigree now lots of times when I preach I want my outline points to preach themselves. You must believe that he's a king or something like that.

But here I'm just going to show you that Matthew was Displaying for all who would read it and have it read to them that he's the king and the obvious implication is going to be obedience homage honor.

Respect worship. That's what we're going for. God doesn't show himself as king just so we can go. Oh, well, you know Did Golden State win today? It is going to be the king. Did they win today? I don't know.

I don't care. Just know they're playing someplace. I don't know when the Kings pedigree is found in chapter 1 every King true or false has proper credentials. Every King has a pedigree. Otherwise, he couldn't be king and so Matthew's going to show the Kings pedigree in chapter 1 so we all know that Jesus is not an imposter that he doesn't come upon the throne with just some kind of Machinations and matriculations and ways to get in that aren't proper.

There is a royal genealogy in chapter 1. He's not a fake he's not a poser. He has a Kings pedigree. Matthew 1 verse 1 the record of the genealogy and by the time we hear the word genealogy we all start thinking.

But you can't do that you can't miss chapter 1. The genealogy of Jesus the Jewish King the Messiah the Anointed One, here's the genealogy. He's got the proper credentials the son of David the son of Abraham.

Now, I'm not gonna read every verse, but if I just chopped up chapter 1 verse 1 here is this genealogy. Here's the birth record to show his true validity that he has a pure-blooded Ancestry if you will to acquire the role of King but it tells us so much he's the Messiah the son of David and the son of Abraham as Matthew goes back to Abraham because he's trying to show that he's the Jewish King.

Luke goes all the way back to Adam because he's trying to show that he's fully human. Matthew believes in Adam, but his point today is I want to show you that Jesus is king of the Jews. Therefore we go to Adam, but he's also called something here amazingly the son of David.

Seven times in this book the son of David the son of David the son of David and if we're not careful We just hear that word and let it go. Son of David have mercy on us. Could this be the son of David?

Have mercy on us. Oh son of David my daughter's severely demon-possessed. The two blind men sitting by the road have mercy on us. Oh Lord son of David. The multitude cried out all the more have mercy on us.

Oh Lord son of David. And in Matthew 22, it says the same thing. Do you think about the Christ whose son is he they said to him? The son of David if you were a Jew and you heard the son of David, what would you be thinking?

He's the king. He's the final king. He's the Davidic real king. Now sometimes if a professor would say to me or a pastor I want to tell you some verses now and I want you to just burn them into your brain.

So you never ever forget them? So sometimes the pastor might say if you ever want to think about the deity of Christ. People come to your door knock and say you know what Jesus isn't God. Would you like to go to perdition with us then you just say to yourself?

No, that's what you say to yourself emphatically no. You say do you have a Bible they say yes. I do and you say could you look up a few verses for them and you say please look up Titus 2 13. Please look up John.

Excuse me a Romans 9 5. Please look up first John 5 20 and what do those say? They all say Jesus is God and those verses are etched in your mind with this irremovable ink. It's funny yesterday Kim was getting a big bag of stuff ready for us to go to the canoe trip and Kim is you know, so good and getting the sandwiches and all the stuff in this new hefty seal bag that is Waterproof and and everything it's got these little handles and I was out of all the people there yesterday I had the stylish little watertight bag and Mike Huber might have the right boots.

But I've got the cool bag and there's a little area there to write things on and so I'm saying to Kim often as she Lovingly helps me and helps me think of all these things. I'll say you know what? It's a guy thing whether I've got sandwiches ready or soda or sunburn ointment or some kind of you know.

Spray for bugs, you know, it'll all work out. We've just got to go the adventures going not how much we pack it. So Kim with a with an indelible magic marker on the area there this little white area that you could write.

She just laid it on. She said don't overexert yourself. You know sunburn ointment, you know. Bug spray, I can't remember some of the other ones. She wrote to just tell me, you know. What does this have to do with anything?

Nothing, but it gives you a break because Jesus is King and with your mind with this indelible magic marker. You must remember these verses not that he's just God but the Jews when they heard son of David they would automatically without exception Consistently say to their mind 2nd Samuel chapter 7.

That's what I want you to think of 2nd Samuel chapter chapter 7 because this genealogy means nothing unless you think like a Jewish person did back then and they all were Longing for this King to come they were all knowing as pastor Dave read about the promises of God are faithful and God said I'm going to give you a son of David who's a king who's going to be the The one like no other King and they were all sitting there remembering that in 2nd Samuel 7 13 and 14 it said this he shall build a house for my name and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.

I will be a father to him and he will be a Son to me when he and he goes on to talk about the rest there about David 7 7 16 says your house and your kingdom shall endure before me forever and your throne shall be established forever.

And you can just imagine the Jews saying I want this King will this King please come we are surrounded with Romans hordes Taking over our government and our land and then you see in the rest of Matthew chapter 1 verses 2 to 17 the the line of the Messiah through his legal father Joseph and Then you see in chapter 1 verse 20.

The royal line is guaranteed that there would be no sin. You can't have a king who lives forever because sin kills and here is this Jesus this Messiah Who is sin less and the Spirit of God guaranteed that look at Matthew chapter 1 verse 20.

But when he had considered this Again, all just showing that Jesus is no phony. Behold an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream saying Joseph Son of David. Do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife for the child has been conceived in her Is of the Holy Spirit.

In other words, the Spirit of God has protected Mary and her womb. We know there was no father the Spirit supplied that What was necessary but Mary even is sinful. Mary is tainted her eggs are tainted as it were by the fall but the Spirit of God hovers over the egg and the conception and everything else and guarantees that this has nothing to do with Mary.

This has to do with the Guarantee that the Spirit of God would control Conception. Virgin birth is one thing but virgin conception is what's needed and basically what happens here in Matthew chapter 1 is we're showing.

We're being shown. This is the pedigree of the great king. He has the royal credentials. Chapter 2. Chapter 2 the treachery surrounding the king. You don't have to read much history. With England and with France and with other countries to realize quickly that there is treachery in the royal court.

It is one of my most. My favorite things to read about how all these people. I mean, this isn't the favorite part to read. But it's just interesting to me that someone's going to be a king and then there are all kinds of issues of treachery.

Surrounding this new king to be and it's no different in the Bible even royalty as one man said is a dangerous business. Absalom tries to usurp the throne. Solomon's choice of successor to the half of the kingdom is gone by a traitor.

Manahem is assassinated in 2nd Kings chapter 15. Anytime there's a king anytime there's power. There is all kinds of suspicion and treachery and issues around the king. If you take a look at Matthew chapter 2 verse 1 now after the Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king lots of Herod stuff in the news these days.

Herod tomb matter of fact Herod was known as what? He was known as the king of the Jews at this time in the days of Herod. Magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem saying Where's he who has been born a king of the Jews?

For we saw his star in the east and have come to worship him now. What would Herod do in response to this? When Herod the king heard this. Oh, he's supposed to be the king of the Jews. He was troubled and all Jerusalem with him.

Gathering together all the chief priests and the scribes of the people inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born. They said to him in Bethlehem of Judea. For this is what has been written by the Prophet.

And you Bethlehem land of Judah, etc in chapter 2 verse 6. So what was Herod's response verse 7 then Herod? Secretly called the Magi and determined from them the exact time the star appeared and with all his his acting prowess he he Says to them in verse 8 Go and search carefully for the child and when you found him report him to me so that I too may come and worship him.

Worship with a knife is what he would mean with a sword. And God in his goodness all the treachery surrounding Jesus the king protects that young king and in verse 13 the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph and says get up take the child and mother and run for your life and It was a good thing because in verse 16 the hammer of Herod comes down.

Then when Herod saw that he had been tricked by the Magi he became Very enraged. Sent and slew all the male children who were in Bethlehem and all its vicinity from two years old and Under and friends there was weeping and there was great mourning if you look at verse 18, it was even spoke of in prophecy Here dies and then it's time to go back as the angel says The new King's born.

There's all kinds of drama and intrigue. Chapter 3 the forerunner to the king we fast-forward 30 years and now we have the forerunner to the king. I studied this week and there would be all kinds of political workings about how Forerunners to the king would have all kinds of propaganda involved and they would try to influence the Senate of Rome.

They would try to Scam those people who were in the kingdom. Matter of fact, I found something called the Hittite Apology of the Hatshepsut. I want to mark that down burn that in your brain to Hatshepsut and they try to Legitimize a usurper to the throne.

So you send out these people to tell everyone else. Yeah that a guy there's not the king. Here's the real king. Here's the forerunner going to blaze the trail so the real king can come and out of all people.

Who does God pick for the forerunner of his son? The son of David the ultimate son of David who does he pick and you know the answer the most holy man ever born. It is amazing who he picks. He picks John the Ambassador Baptist.

Chapter 3 verse 1 now in those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea saying repent for the what is at hand Kingdom and you have a kingdom. You've got to have a king. And he says my Isaiah the Prophet talks about John the Baptist the voice of one crying in the wilderness and here's what he did as the king is coming and you need to Cut down all the the trees and make a nice road for the king.

So to figuratively John the Baptist does that to make ready the way of the Lord make his paths straight? And then Jesus is baptized by this unique trailblazer locust and honey and his wardrobe. Yet this trailblazer was filled and his mother was filled with excuse me he was filled with the Spirit while he was yet in his mother's womb great in the sight of God and Here this king has a proper forerunner and a herald and that's John the Baptist chapter 4.

The Temptation of the King by Satan

Chapter 4 the challenge to the king and fourthly the challenge to the king. I think the rivals are just gonna sit around and go. Yeah. He's a king. Yeah, whatever come see come saw K. We don't care. There are rivals who stand to lose there are rivals who stand maybe to benefit by the loss.

And you can study the English monarchy in the 1100s and you can know for sure What happens when a monarch dies? How they go around trying to attack each other and here comes the challenge to the king, but it's by no man.

It's by no group of people. It's not by some kind of group of leaders some kind of Oligarchy or some kind of a few it is by Satan himself. Do you really think that the king is presented and Satan just gonna go sure?

Come on, no problem. The king of the world as it were Satan is going to challenge the king of the Jews and the universe. Matthew 4 this is amazing. This is absolutely amazing. Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit.

That's the Holy Spirit by the way into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. Yes, you heard it, right. The same spirit that descended in the form of the dove on Jesus in Matthew 3 and Had the father say this is my beloved son in whom I'm what well, please that same Spirit that confirmed Jesus's ministry that inaugurated him into public ministry now impels Jesus and drives him out into the wilderness and he uses Satan to prove Jesus as king.

People run around all the time. Oh Satan this and Satan that. Bind him and hedge him and give him you know. All these kind of things and put him in a box and and we've got to walk around the church. And you know, we're looking to buy new property.

So let's just do the prayer walk and they get Satan out of there. Satan's real. Satan's true. But I never ever worry about Satan. Because I know he is God's servant and God is not gonna let Satan do anything Beyond what God has decreed wise and good and profitable true.

I don't need to run around wondering what Satan's doing by the way as a side note and you know. There are pastoral side notes. Paul Deuce. Paul does side notes, too. If ever Satan was really attacking me I would never if I even had the ability to say Satan I bind you with the triple knot.

You can't touch me with a half hook knot or something like that. I never would if I had the ability to bind Satan and he was attacking me and I knew he was attacking me. I never ever ever would do it.

Why? Because sometimes God uses Satan To do his work in the life of an individual. I Don't think he can indwell Christians, but can you think of the Old Testament? Let's just imagine Job. Job didn't know Satan.

He didn't know anything, but let's say he knows a Satan Job one. We know it's Satan. Here's Satan after Job and Job goes, you know what by the way, I bind you I redo rebuke you and I send you to Fitchburg.

I mean off you go. Okay, if you live in Fitchburg, sorry. Wherever I don't care pick a city. He would be undoing what God is doing in his life. We have ways to battle the enemy he is real and he is true but those ways are found in Ephesians 6 for instance, and you won't find binding and casting and you know, all those other things matter of fact, it is a Manifestation of false teachers to bind and cast out Satan.

That's what second Peter and Jude says. But that's another story. Here God tests Jesus through Satan. Let's see if he can withstand the test because the true son of David Obviously would stand up to the test and here God the Son is going to allow God.

The Father is going to allow the Son to display with clearness that he is holy and will always be holy. And what does he do? He sends him. The language is almost like pushing. Shoving out the door into the wilderness and if you're thinking like a Jew in the imagery of the Old Testament this horrible a place of Desolation and loneliness it is bad.

It is frightening. This is not one of those things where you just go well. You know I'm gonna just hike through the wilderness a little bit and if you were a Jew you'd be thinking wilderness demons. You see the association doom gloom danger ahead danger lurks ahead.

One man said Jesus is getting pushed into anti Eden Verse 2 and after he had fasted 40 days and 40 nights. He then became hungry and the tempter came and said to him. You picture the scene Jesus is hungry tired all the isolation and danger and here comes Satan with a little pitchfork going.

You may gotta remember friends. That's just a that's a big caricature. The angel of light he could have appeared as because he does come as an angel of light radiant beautiful splendor and he says in verse 3 if You're the Son of God command that these stones become bread.

In other words, you are God's Son and you're hungry you're the Son of the King and you are hungry and The Satan's probably thinking you know what I got Adam with food the first time let's get the second Adam with food as well.

Well Jesus succumb as well. But it's not the plan of the father. There's nothing wrong to eat. But in this particular situation, there's major trouble with that. Satan says you've got the power and the means and of the authority to eat anytime you want.

Provide for your own needs apart from your father is basically what he's saying. The father's plan included all that and Satan's like just bypass do the end around behind the back. It's no big deal. And Jesus said I would rather starve.

Is what he says? Hendricks and the commentator said quote tempter. Ascribing these words to Jesus you are proceeding upon a false assumption that for a man in order to appease hunger and keep alive Bread is absolutely necessary.

Over against this erroneous idea. I now declare that not bread but the creative Energizing and sustaining power of my father is the only indispensable source of my and of man's life and well-being. Well, that didn't work.

Verse 5. So the devil took him into the holy city and had him stand on the pinnacle of the temple all testing this great king. Can the king survive the test? Satan says, you know if you're gonna say you just live on God's Word alone.

Then here's a verse or two for you. Here you go. You say you're all about God's Word. Here's a verse. He says in verse 6 if you're the Son of God throw yourself down for it is written. He will command his angels concerning you and all caps again showing Old Testament quote on their hands.

They will bear you up so that you will not strike your foot against stone. You think you trust God then show everybody you trust him. Put your money where your mouth is. True or false. Satan quoted scripture accurately false.

He omitted a phrase in all your ways and he tweaked and torqued its meaning. God will protect you no matter what you do and Jesus said to him. If you were stuck in the wilderness, by the way. It had only one Bible book to quote use if you were Jesus.

It would be Deuteronomy all three times right from Deuteronomy on the other hand. It is written. You shall not. Jesus said put the Lord your God to the test. And he quotes from the Old Testament that is in a passage where Israel is somehow demanding miraculous protection to show excuse me to show that God was caring for them and The devil took him to a high place in verse 8 and showed him all the kingdoms of their world and their glory and he Said to them said to him all these things.

I will give you if you fall down and worship me. All this delegated power and lordship and authority just genuflect one single time. It would have been a sinful bypass. We would have called Jesus the shortcut Savior wanting the crown but no cross.

And you can just hear Satan today. You're worth it. You deserve it. You're the king. And what did Jesus do verse 10? This King Jesus Stands the test. Go Satan for it is written. You shall worship the Lord your God and serve him only and you're no Lord.

Then we come to chapter 5 through 7 the manifesto of the king. This whole book is about Jesus is the only monarch and we come to 5 to 7 and you can almost see this Manifesto what Jesus says and basically before we dive into this because we've already been in it in months past.

This King is a different kind of King. He doesn't just want external obedience. He wants obedience that comes from the heart. Most Kings, you know what you're in my territory and as long as you do what I say I don't care if you're really willing to do it or not, but just do what I say.

Here's this King the son of David King the Messiah King and he wants external and what internal obedience Harry Elmer Barnes said about Matthew 5 to 7 in the manifesto of the king the Sermon on the Mount is Augustine called it.

It's just shocking. Once we make a candid examination of the actual teachings of Jesus in Matthew 5 to 7 in. So far as we know of them, it must be admitted that they are not only archaic. But even destructive of any advanced civilization if the teachings of Jesus as they exist were applied to a contemporary society.

Nothing less than anarchy and the destruction of the civilized order would inevitably follow. But if Jesus is the real King, these are his words for living in his kingdom. Chapter 8 9. Chapter 8 9 the power and compassion of the king.

The power and the compassion of the king. How much power does this King have. I mean the old kings they would wrap themselves with royal dignity and they'd wrap themselves with with beautiful robes and they would adorn themselves with diadems and scepters and they would live in palaces and have bodyguards and harems and they would adorn themselves with all those things and Here this King is not only compassionate, but he's powerful and Jesus wraps himself in.

Showing compassion to people and that's what happens in chapter 8 and 9. This King is not only as strong as his army. This King is powerful and compassionate and he shows miracles that demonstrate that.

My old pastor used to say this. Here's what Jesus could have done If you don't believe in me. Let's even back up. I want to. I'm gonna suspend you 50 feet up in the air all unbelievers and when you believe in me You finally can come down.

Jesus could show his power any way he wanted even the old Hindu writings that are false. But when the little boy would say something mean to Jesus and take his toy some of those writings would talk about weird things and you know turning them into little.

Little monsters or little creatures or turn them in there some birds or all kinds of things. Jesus could do whatever he wants. Here's this powerful King. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Well not in this particular case because this powerful King has many shawls.

But one's power and the others compassion and look at how he manifests his power with compassion. Verse 1 of chapter 8 when Jesus came down from the mountain large crowds followed him and a leper came to him and bowed down before him and said Lord if you're willing you can make me clean and Jesus did something that you're not supposed to do.

He stretched out his hand and Touched him saying I'm willing to be cleansed and immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And in chapter 8 and 9 You see these punctuation points of power and compassion. Not just one or the other but power and compassion.

The centurion servant is next healed. And if you go down to verse 14 Peter's home. His mother-in-law was lying sick. And this was all verse 17 as Jesus healed them to fulfill what was spoken verse 17 by Isaiah the prophet.
