Does this PROVE JESUS IS NOT GOD? #Islam #dawah #apologetics #presup
In this video, Eli reacts to a muslim who tries to argue that Jesus was not God. In doing so, Eli breaks down Mark 13:32 and why it does refute the biblical concept of the deity of Christ.

Alright welcome back to reveals apologetics and in this video. I'm gonna be responding to this brief clip apparently
This Muslim is going to try and show that Jesus is not God Using the the text of the
New Testament, so let's listen in and I'll share my thoughts Okay, so you believe
Jesus to be good God knows everything all the time you agree So if Jesus is
God, but therefore he has to know everything all the time. Do you agree? Yeah, but in the Bible Jesus doesn't know the
Day of Judgment in Mark 13 32 Jesus said no one knows the day and the hour not even the angels in heaven nor the
Sun but only the father and you know What is very interesting here, you know in the Quran something very similar not everything
Allah told Prophet Muhammad They asked about Day of Judgment said no one knows except Allah So prophet
Jesus and a prophet Muhammad they said the same thing that they don't know They don't have the knowledge of the hour only
God My point here is if Jesus is God and he has to know everything just I'll show you from the Bible Jesus I said, um, he doesn't not know everything.
So how can he be good doesn't make any sense? All right, so Let's see the line of argument here.
So this gentleman argues that how can Jesus be God if in the Bible it says that Jesus has no man knows the day or the hour not even the angels nor the
Sun and of course he is referencing John I'm sorry, John. He's referencing Mark chapter 13 verse 32, which says the following but concerning that day or hour
No one knows not even the angels in heaven nor the Sun but only the father now
It's important to understand a little bit about the context of that passage those who familiar with the Gospels Mark 13 is a parallel to Luke 21 and Matthew 24 it is the
Olivet Discourse. It is the longest prophetic utterance that Jesus provides in the Gospels and the context there is that the disciples come to Jesus asking him about the day in the hour and they're they're
Speaking to him with respect to words that he said when he left the temple. Okay in the temple area
He says that not one stone will be left upon another that will not be cast down And so he predicts the destruction of Jerusalem.
He speaks of a coming And many people think that the the coming or the
You know the time of the return or whatever that this is referencing the second coming of Christ I actually don't agree that that's what it's referring to And this point is actually irrelevant to the response here
I actually think that Jesus is giving a description of the signs that will precede the events leading up to the events including
The destruction of Jerusalem so the wars and rumors of wars and all those sorts of things Those are things that were to happen within that generation as we see in the parallel Matthew 24 32 or 34
I think if I remember correctly Nevertheless, you have to understand what is Jesus doing here in Mark 13?
Leading up to the point where right before Jesus says no man knows the day of the hour. What has Jesus been doing? Jesus has literally been predicting the future
Okay, he's literally predicting the future. He's telling his disciples What will happen and so are we really to believe?
Contextually that right after Jesus gives this long description of telling the future then he ends with that But I don't know.
I don't know this other thing over here. Well, not at all okay, and this is why we need to understand context not just of the passage, but just The context of how words are used and phrases are used
Okay I don't believe for a minute that when Jesus says no man knows the day or the hour nor the angels nor the
Sun that He is actually admitting ignorance on this point I mean you see the utilization of this kind of language of not knowing anything not literally meaning literally not knowing anything
Okay I think that Jesus clearly is God from the biblical text and there are other portions of scripture that Explicitly tell us that he knows all things.
So what gives what's going on here? Well, if you take a look for example in the words of Paul You see kind of a parallel usage of this language here in First Corinthians chapter 2 verse 2 the
Apostle Paul says this check this out For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified
Think about that. Paul says I have decided to know nothing among you except Christ crucified now are we to take this?
Well, this is what the text says. That's what text says Yeah well a text can say something but we also have to interpret the text and we have to interpret the text fairly within its linguistic context
It's cultural context and all that all the jazz that is required to properly interpret a text Obviously the
Apostle Paul is not saying he literally knows nothing Okay What Paul is doing is he's choosing to limit the things that he is going to declare to his audience
And of course, he is focusing on Christ crucified. That is what his focus is And this is the same thing that's going on in Mark 13.
Jesus isn't literally saying I don't know the day or the hour He's saying that is not for me to declare to you
Okay, this is easily understood when you look at even the cultural backdrop of You know the
Jewish culture of the time look in terms of you know, the ancient Jewish wedding practices It was traditional for the father to prepare all of the details on the back ends of the wedding
And then he would declare when the things are ready This is not inconsistent with the the son could very well know more or less when things were gonna things were gonna happen
But it is the father's role to declare when it was ready And so Jesus is talking within that cultural backdrop.
We see linguistic comparison between Jesus words here and the usage of Paul and think in terms of Acts chapter
Well, take a look at the Gospel of John John 16 30 and get says here now We know that you know all things and do not need anyone to question you
This is why we believe that you came from God So it's obvious that the Bible teaches that Jesus knows everything and so we need to take all of these
All of what the scripture says to understand how to properly interpret these passages I mean take a look at Acts chapter 1 for example verses 6 through 7 and he's a very interesting point
The the disciples is right before the ascension of Jesus and the disciples asked Jesus Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?
Okay, and look notice what Jesus says He says it is not for you to know the times or the seasons that the father has fixed by his own authority
Now notice what Jesus didn't say. He didn't say In response to the question
Lord, is it is it at this time you're gonna restore the kingdom and Jesus didn't say well I don't know when the kingdom is gonna be restored
He says no He says it is not for you to know the times or the seasons that the father has fixed by his own authority
Okay, so Jesus doesn't say well, I don't know. I guess I don't know. He knows all things.
It's taught all throughout scripture He is just using the common language to express the proper roles and functions of both the father and the son
It is the father's task to declare it It is not mine to declare that is not the same as saying
I literally don't know when the day or the hour will come Okay Now why is this important?
Okay Kind of enough to kind of shift here and no longer responding to this gentleman right away The idea that Jesus is
God is central to Christianity. It is clearly taught in Scripture I don't buy for a minute these Muslim arguments as you've seen my past videos.
The arguments don't seem that sophisticated There are obviously some more sophisticated arguments that would require us to go into more detail, but I think the
Bible clearly it's not maybe or clearly teaches that Jesus is God in human flesh people might say for example, someone like Shabir Ali often makes the the argument that the
The Gospels see kind of a progression where Jesus's status is heightened I don't think that's the case and people say well mark was the earliest gospel and mark doesn't teach the deity of Christ That's hogwash teaches the deity of Christ right at the beginning.
I mean, let's take a look here mark chapter 1 Okay, and then I'll get into why this is important.
Okay in mark chapter 1 You have the deity of Christ expressed right there. So we go to mark
Okay one and here's what it says the beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God as it is written in Isaiah the prophet
Behold, I send my messenger before your face who will prepare your way the voice of one crying in the wilderness prepare the way of the
Lord make his path straight. Okay, John is a preparing the way for the
Messiah But in the contextual the context of the book of Isaiah who is being Whose way is being prepared it is
Yahweh and if John is the fulfillment of that Isaiah passage being the one who
Calls out in the wilderness and prepares the way of the Lord. He's preparing the way for Yahweh It's right there in the gospel of mark.
We don't we don't have to go into these theories of well You know It's more simple in the gospel of mark and he's just presented as a man and then it develops
No, the deity of Christ is all throughout the New Testament. And this is why Christians believe in the deity of Christ Okay, so Jesus is
God the Bible clearly teaches that and bringing up these passages like mark 13 and so forth does not demonstrate the contrary now this is important because Jesus says in the
Gospels that unless you believe that I am you will die in your sins Okay, that's a very interesting phraseology there because he's quoting
Exodus 3 14 Where God tells Moses his name I am that I am and so when
Jesus made these claims that the gospel teaches us that They picked up stones to stone him because a mere man was making himself out to be
God The Bible clearly teaches that Jesus is God in human flesh But the important thing for the
Muslim to listen to is that unless you believe that Jesus Christ is who he claimed to be You will die in your sins
And so I'm calling out to the Muslim here you must repent of your sins
Embrace the true Jesus not the Jesus of Islam Not the Jesus of Mormonism not the
Jesus of the Jehovah's Witness the Jesus of the scriptures it is in him that you could receive a genuine reconciliation with God by faith in Christ and That you can save you save yourself from judgment because you have a false
Christ Okay, and so for Christians now, I'm speaking to Christians This is why you need to know your Bible you need to be able to respond to these
These points and these Muslim arguments coming left and right on the Internet and in all different sources
We need to be able to interact with these ideas And so as first Peter chapter 3 verse 15 tells us and Jew chapter 1 verse 3
We are to always be ready to give a reason for the hope that's in us and in the book of Jude It says that we must contend earnestly for the faith once for all
Delivered you need to know the faith once for all delivered and so we need to know what the scriptures teach and we need to boldly speak out and respond to this form of Argumentation.
So hopefully this is an encouragement to Christians and it is a response to Muslims who are wondering about this question
Did Jesus know the day of the hour? Yes, the Bible teaches he knows all things Well, then why did Jesus say he did not know the day of the hour?
Well again when you look at how language is used you see the consistent utilization of that throughout the scriptures as well
You see that it is clear that Jesus is simply affirming that it is not his role to declare the time of the hour
It is not for as Jesus said to his disciples. It is not for you to know rather it is for the father to declare it
Okay, simple not overly complicated and hopefully this is helpful for folks who aren't listening in guys
