- Welcome back to Daily Bites, God's Word. This is Andy Cain. It's a joy to be back with you once again. Today we are looking at Psalm 119, verse 3.
- 00:21
- It says, they, oh, we've got to stop right there. They, who's they? Who is this they you speak of?
- 00:28
- Well, this is why it's important with biblical interpretation to remember that no verse, while we may be doing one verse at a time here, we're never going to treat a verse like an island on its own because it goes with what came before it and what come after it.
- 00:40
- And so some of these episodes we may need to do some of that filler. Here we do, because otherwise you can't define who this they is.
- 00:48
- They, this is the blessed ones of verse 1 and 2, the blessed ones whose way is blameless, that observe the testimonies of God, that seek
- 00:56
- Him with all their heart, they, those blessed ones, also, meaning in conjunction with the fact that they observe
- 01:05
- His testimonies and they seek Him with all their heart, also do not, so here's the negative, we have the positive of observing the testimonies, walking in the law of the
- 01:15
- Lord, seeking with all your heart. Now the negative aspect, they do not work unrighteousness.
- 01:25
- They walk in His ways. Notice here, they do not work unrighteousness.
- 01:30
- Why? Because they walk in His ways. Do you walk in His ways?
- 01:38
- Do you walk in submission and obedience to the Word of God? Does your church obey the
- 01:45
- Word of God? Do your pastors obey the Word of God? Do your deacons obey the Word of God?
- 01:50
- Do your congregants obey the Word of God? Do you, Christian, obey the
- 01:56
- Word of God? You do not work unrighteousness, meaning you are not seeking to work unrighteousness, you're not seeking to sin, you're not seeking to be disobedient.
- 02:09
- Why? Because you're seeking with all your heart to be obedient, to walk in His ways, meaning you have to know what
- 02:19
- His ways are. You can't walk and live and pattern your life after someone or something if you don't know what that thing is.
- 02:30
- So you have to study Scripture, you have to study the Word of God. You're going to have to study the
- 02:37
- Word of God to know Christ, you're going to have to know Christ more meaningfully and more deeply so that you can be obedient and walk in His ways.
- 02:47
- But also it's not just about knowing His ways, it's about taking action, moving forward, being obedient versus disobedient.
- 02:57
- So when that next time something pops up in your life and you have a choice to lie or not, to sin or not, steal or not, or bear false witness or not, or whatever that is, and you have the option to sin or not sin, to work righteousness or unrighteousness, you need to make the right choice to walk in His ways and not work unrighteousness.
