- 00:00
- Hello there, and welcome back to Daily Bites God's Word.
- 00:14
- This is Andy Cain. It's a joy to be back with you once again. Today we are looking at Psalm 119 and verse 7.
- 00:22
- Verse 7 says, I shall give thanks to you with uprightness of heart when
- 00:28
- I learn your righteous judgments. This is one of the things that we see from the people of God that are part of the kingdom of God.
- 00:37
- They not only look to or towards and look forward to and rejoice to see the judgment and justice, righteous judgments of God, but we like to learn of them.
- 00:51
- We like to learn and know that righteous judgment is being meted out. Unrighteous judgment, unbalanced judgment in a world when we see it in our governments or in countries, towns, cities, whatever, or even in churches for that matter, makes anybody angry.
- 01:09
- Nobody wants to be treated unfairly or unjustly. The good news is that no matter how unfair or unjust a worldly judge may be, there is one judge who always judges fairly, righteously, in a holy manner and makes righteous judgments and that is
- 01:29
- God Almighty. Notice verse 7 says, I, this is the person, giving thanks to you,
- 01:35
- God, with uprightness of heart. We do not give thanks to God based on, well, you know, he did something for me, so I guess
- 01:45
- I gotta be thankful to him. No, we are thankful to God with an uprightness of heart, which means we have a righteous thankfulness to God.
- 01:57
- We have a holy thankfulness, one that is set apart and different than the world.
- 02:04
- We love our God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and we are thankful. Notice specifically in the context of this verse, you give thanks with uprightness of heart when you learn of the righteous judgments.
- 02:17
- Well, the first thing we're thankful for as a Christian is that the righteous judgment on our sin was meted out to Christ and not to us.
- 02:27
- He took the righteous judgment for our sin in our place as our substitute and satisfied the wrath of God against our sin on our behalf.
- 02:36
- So we should rejoice first and foremost for the righteous judgment on our own sin and be thankful that Christ took that judgment for us, amen?
- 02:48
- So I want to encourage you to give thanks to God today. Do it with uprightness of heart and do it because you learn of and you're thankful for the fact that he is the righteous judge, amen?
