Daily Bites Of God's Word - Part 8 - Psalm 119:8

Bytes of God's Word. This is Andy Cain and today we're looking at Psalm 119 verse 8. It says,

I shall keep your statutes. Do not forsake me utterly. Now there's a cross reference here with Psalm 38 verse 21.

It says, Do not forsake me, O Yahweh. O my God, do not be far from me.

This psalmist wanted to have closeness with God. He wanted to have a friendship with God, a relationship with God, a right restored relationship with God.

He knows that by keeping the statutes of God, he shows where his heart is. He shows where his motives are.

Do not forsake me utterly, Lord. Do not leave me. This is the call of all Christians. We never want to be removed from God.

We never want to have him leave us. And this call to not be forsaken comes from our heart because we know who

God is. We know who we are. We know how much we need him. And the truth of scripture is that we have been promised several times over by God that he will never leave us nor forsake us.

This does not mean that in our flesh and in hard times we may feel that we have, you know, maybe that we just feel alone.

And the truth of scripture tells us that this is not true. We cannot be forsaken. God cannot be removed from his people.

Jesus says those that the Father has given me cannot be plucked out of my hand. And so we know that he will not forsake us.

And I shall keep your statutes. Why? Well, looking back at everything that's come before, we do it so we won't be ashamed.

We do it so we'll be blessed. We do it to be thankful. And now he says in light of all this, this first paragraph, if you will,

Psalm 119, his sort of end statement or mission statement here is that because of everything,

I shall keep your statutes. Lord, do not forsake me. Be there for me. Help me. That is my cry.

I hope it is your cry to call upon the Lord when you need him because he is clearly always there for us.
