What we hear in modern day preaching is the law, law, law. If you don't want to obey the flesh and you want to stop lusting and stop all your problems, it's law, law, law.
00:10
And Paul goes, no, no, it's not. It's demonic in nature. It's actually Christ, Christ, Christ.
00:16
He says, it was before your very eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. Let me ask you only this. Did you receive the
00:22
Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? Now this is important. How did you start? How did you come into the family of God?
00:30
I mean, Ephesians 2, just slap you upside the head, not by works as any man should boast, right? Not by obedience.
00:36
So are you so foolish having begun by the Spirit? Are you now being perfected by the flesh?
00:42
Do you suffer so many things that is in vain, right? Verse 5, does he who supply the
00:48
Spirit to you and works miracles among you, I love that he talks about the supernatural work that's happening now, do so by works.
00:56
Now this, I love this, by works of the law or by hearing with faith.
01:02
Paul is not downplaying the law. He's not belittling it. He's not casting it aside. He's saying you are not using it as it was designed.
01:10
You are not living according to its purpose. The way in which that we continue in our progression and faith, the way in which we grow into the likeness of Christ is by faith.
01:23
And Justin, he points it out clearly. It's faith in the work of Christ. I love this when
01:29
Paul says we walk by faith, right? And that's how we don't fulfill the lust of the flesh.
01:35
Because it's walking by faith is to receive the righteousness of Christ. To walk by the Spirit is to receive the righteousness of Christ.
01:42
And so that's what we need to continue to be exhorted in. Keep trusting him. Keep looking to him. And then, yes, the law of God is a perfect guide for your life.
01:53
When we say pull the clutter off the gospel, Justin and I want to reclaim the power of the gospel.
01:58
And when I mean power, I mean the supernatural work of the Spirit. When Jesus says that it's like the wind blowing and he does a work, we believe that there's an actual supernatural work happening here.
02:11
He says, 1 Peter 1 .3, His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness.
02:18
Justin, that should just wrap it up and sum it up right there. Now he goes into the third use of the law later on.
02:24
Now, if this is true about you, here's how you should obey. But he says the power to do so is divine.
02:30
It's not flesh. It's divine. I mean, that should just wrap up this argument, case closed, right?
02:36
But how many writers of the New Testament, this is like was our fourth book we've quoted so far? They're all having to clarify what we keep falling into.
