Welcome to Theocast - A Reformed Podcast
2 views
Our primary focus at Theocast is to encourage weary pilgrims to rest in Christ. We facilitate simple conversations about the Christian life from a reformed perspective through our weekly podcasts, primers, books, blogs, and educational material.
- 00:00
- Turn on the TV, radio, get on the internet, podcast, and you're gonna have so many people saying so many different things about what you should think about Jesus Christ and your relationship to Jesus Christ.
- 00:12
- And what's scary is that they aren't agreeing. We aren't coming to the same conclusions. At Theocast, we are trying to help people wade through what they're hearing, kind of filter it.
- 00:23
- And we found that the best filter, the most accurate filter, the one that's been used now for hundreds of years, is a confessional understanding of the scriptures.
- 00:32
- And as we walk you through the different parts, starting from Genesis all the way to Revelation, we're trying to help you see that Jesus Christ is not just a part of the story, that he's in there and he's kind of the superhero of the story, but Jesus Christ is the point of the universe, that there is nothing outside of him that is more important because outside of Jesus Christ, you have nothing.
- 00:56
- So at Theocast, we want to expose what we call pietism, deconstruct it, pull it apart, show the dangers of it, how it causes people to live in anxiety, fear, a lack of assurance, and then gently walk them over, as pastors should, to a side where there is rest.
- 01:12
- Jesus says that, Jesus calls us, he says, come to me, all you who are, what, weary and weighed down by the law.
- 01:19
- He says, he promises rest. That's the design of the podcast and our ministry and what we produce at Theocast, is at the end of it, you'll be able to see where there's been some confusion, there's been a mixture of law and gospel where we may start trusting in the law, where we should be trusting in the gospel, and divide those two, and in doing so, truly see how we can rest, find joy and satisfaction in Jesus Christ, and in the end, really rejoice in what we have received.
- 01:48
- So we hope you enjoy. So I'm gonna start by just restating your question. What makes
- 01:53
- Theocast unique amongst other podcasts is that our aim, sincerely, is to encourage weary pilgrims to rest in Jesus Christ.
- 02:02
- We are three pastors who have all come out of a context where we were constantly pointed inward in various ways, whether that was to our own obedience, our performance, to our own feelings about Jesus, and we have found those things to be, frankly, sinking sand.
- 02:17
- And so now we, the three of us, as we have conversations about various issues in the Christian life, very simple conversations.
- 02:24
- We want to point the believer to Christ in all things. We want to point the believer to the righteousness of Christ in his or her place.
- 02:33
- We wanna point the Christian to the sufficiency of Christ's work, that he really has accomplished everything necessary for our salvation.
- 02:41
- We want to help people understand that the point of the Bible is not morality. What makes the
- 02:47
- Bible and biblical Christianity unique is its story. It's a story of God's plan of redemption accomplished through Jesus.
- 02:55
- And so that's the story that we're telling each and every episode as we have conversations about different aspects of what life looks like as a
- 03:03
- Christian in a fallen world. Our hope here at Theocast for the listeners and for anybody that's going to be interacting with the material that we put out of this ministry is that people would know that they know that they know like in their bones that Christ is enough, that he really has done everything that they need, and that there is nothing left to be done.
- 03:24
- And so sometimes people have an interesting experience when they encounter this kind of theology for the first time, they end up asking this question.
- 03:32
- They say, okay, so Christ really has done it all? To which we say, yes, he's done it all. And then they say, well, what do
- 03:39
- I do now? And the irony in it is that we'll end up doing many of the same things that we were doing before, but the motivations will be completely different.
- 03:49
- Safety in Christ motivates us for obedience. Joy and love and peace and assurance and gratitude propel us forward in the
- 04:00
- Christian life. It really is all of Christ, all to be received by faith. And that's our hope that our listeners and anybody who interacts with our stuff, we hope that's the takeaway.
- 04:11
- So here at Theocast, we don't merely want to deconstruct the pietistic or perhaps the pervasive views in evangelicalism, we also want to reconstruct the average listener towards a more reformed confessional understanding of the
- 04:26
- Christian life. Because for us, it's really fun and it can be fun just to listen to things be put down, but we don't merely wanna do that.
- 04:35
- We wanna help not just call you away from something, but to call you to something. And that's really the hope, the rest, the joy, the peace, the assurance that we find in Christ, and really how we believe that reformed theology, a reformed and confessional mindset, isn't just an end in itself, but it's really a means to an end to get us there.
- 04:58
- So one of our hopes for you as the listener or as somebody who's looking at this content would be that you would walk in the footsteps that we have walked and in the footsteps of those before us who have really kind of laid the groundwork of this idea of resting in Christ.
- 05:16
- So we hope you enjoy what you listen to, what you read, and what you see on our site. And we think and we believe and we pray that as you make this journey with us, you will come to find more joy and rest and peace and assurance in Christ.
