13:45: And good morning, welcome to Kootenai Church. We're glad you're here this morning. Would you please stand?
13:50: We're going to read a call to worship out of Psalm 2 this morning. And it says,
13:56: Why do the nations rage, and the peoples meditate on a vain thing? The kings of the earth take their stand, and the rulers take counsel together against Yahweh and against His anointed, saying,
14:10: Let us tear their fetters apart and cast away their cords from us. He who sits in the heavens laughs.
14:17: The Lord mocks them. Then He speaks to them in His anger and terrifies them in His fury, saying,
14:26: But as for me I have installed my king upon Zion, my holy mountain. I will surely tell of the decree of Yahweh.
14:33: He said to me, You are my son. Today I have begotten you. Ask of me, and I will surely give the nations as your inheritance.
14:41: And the ends of the earth is your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron. You shall shatter them like a potter's vessel.
14:49: So now, O kings, show insight. Take warning, O judges of the earth.
14:55: Serve Yahweh with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the son, lest he become angry, and you perish in the way.
15:03: For his wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in him.
15:10: We're going to sing this morning, Why Do the Nations Rage, Psalm 2. Why do the nations rage?
15:28: The people plot in vain. The kings and rulers of this age, against God's holy name.
15:40: They, in their mortal rage, oppose the holy one.
15:48: We cast asunder all these chains. Our bond shall be undone.
15:57: Declares the Lord his Lord. He from his heaven laughs.
16:04: As anger flashes onto war and terrifying wrath.
16:12: Yet I have passed for me according to my will.
16:20: Set my anointed king to be on Zion's holy hill.
16:28: Now God's anointed one shall tell of his decree.
16:36: He said, Today thou art my son. I have begun to be to thee as thy domain.
16:48: As thou hast asked of me the ends of earth for thee to reign.
16:55: So thine estate shall be. Who thou the lands abroad, the nations shalt thou shame.
17:07: As earth and air with iron wrought, their kingdom shalt thou bring.
17:15: O king, throw off thy crown. Be warned, O judge of earth.
17:23: Before the Lord bow trampling down, and there proclaim his word.
17:31: Give homage to the sun, lest he give anger's sway.
17:39: Lest thou be in his wrath undone, and perish in the way.
17:46: The blessed drawing near, whom he declares his own.
17:54: Adore his name in holy fear, in refuge at his throne.
18:20: We've been forgiven. Have been made clean.
18:31: How do we know we'll go? You have been raised.
18:44: The tomb has been opened. Nothing can take away our hope in you.
18:49: You have been raised. You have been raised.
18:56: The work is completed. Hell and its powers have been defeated. You have been raised.
19:07: Now we are free from condemnation. There is no judgment left for us to be.
19:19: We don't have to wonder if we're welcome still. The tomb has been opened.
19:33: Nothing can take away our hope in you.
19:44: The work is completed. Hell and its powers have been defeated. You have been raised.
19:50: The price you paid for us has fully been accepted.
20:00: Because of your shed blood, we cannot be rejected.
20:06: The price you paid for us has fully been accepted. Because of your shed blood, we cannot be rejected.
20:23: You have been raised. The tomb has been opened. Nothing can take away our hope in you.
20:30: You have been raised. You have been raised.
20:36: The work is completed. Hell and its powers have been defeated. You have been raised.
21:22: Let us love and sing and wonder. Let us praise the
21:29: Savior's name. He has hushed the law's loud thunder.
21:35: He has quenched mouth's sinai's sling. He has washed us with His blood.
21:44: He has washed us with His blood. He has washed us with His blood.
21:53: He has brought us nigh to God. Let us love the
22:07: Lord who bought us, Pitying us when enemies
22:13: Told us by His grace and taught us,
22:19: Gave us ears and gave us eyes. He has washed us with His blood.
22:27: He has washed us with His blood. He has washed us with His blood.
22:36: He presents our souls to God. Let us sing through fierce temptation,
22:52: Threatens hard to bear us down. For the
22:57: Lord, our strong salvation, Holds in view the conqueror's crown.
23:04: He who washed us with His blood, He who washed us with His blood,
23:13: He who washed us with His blood, Soon will bring us home to God.
23:29: Let us wonder grace and justice, Join and point to mercy's sword.
23:37: When through grace in Christ our trust is, Justice smiles and asks no more.
23:46: He who washed us with His blood, He who washed us with His blood,
23:54: He who washed us with His blood, Has secured our way to God.
24:03: Let us praise and join the chorus
24:15: Of the saints enthroned on high. Here they trusted
24:21: Him before us, Now their praises fill the sky.

32:06: Bible to the book of Exodus, please? Exodus 14, the scripture reading. And as you do that,

33:06: This is not our first time to the rodeo, and we know this is not going to be our last time to the rodeo, so you should probably get steeled in your own heart and mind as to what is ahead and what our response should be.
33:16: That movie will do a good job of doing that for you. And then we have a Harvest Dinner coming up on October 22nd, and then a
33:23: Reformation Night is coming up on October 28th. That's a Saturday night, and if you would like to help out with that, preparing that Reformation Night celebration, it's really geared for the kids and the church, then please talk to Amanda Hammond about that.
33:38: Exodus chapter 14, our scripture reading. We're going to begin at verse 30, and then we're actually going to read through chapter 15.
33:47: Chapter 14, verse 30. This is after the
33:54: Lord drowned the Egyptians in the Red Sea, the Exodus. Exodus 14, verse 30.
33:59: Thus the Lord saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore.
34:06: When Israel saw the great power which the Lord had used against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord, and they believed in the
34:12: Lord and in His servant Moses. Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to the
34:17: Lord and said, I will sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted. The horse and its rider
34:23: He has hurled into the sea. The Lord is my strength and song. He has become my salvation.
34:29: This is my God, and I will praise Him, my Father's God, and I will extol Him. The Lord is a warrior.
34:35: The Lord is His name. Pharaoh's chariots and his army he has cast into the sea, and the choicest of his officials are drowned in the
34:42: Red Sea. The deeps cover them. They went down into the depths like a stone. Your right hand,
34:48: O Lord, is majestic in power. Your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy. And in the greatness of Your excellence,
34:54: You overthrow those who rise up against You. You send forth Your burning anger, and it consumes them as chaff.
35:01: At the blast of Your nostrils, the waters were piled up. The flowing water stood up like a heap.
35:06: The deeps were congealed in the heart of the sea. The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake,
35:12: I will divide the spoil. My desire shall be gratified against them. I will draw out my sword.
35:17: My hand will destroy them. You blew them with Your wind. The sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters.
35:25: Who is like You among the gods, O Lord? Who is like You, majestic in holiness, awesome in praises, working wonders?
35:32: You stretched out Your right hand. The earth swallowed them. In Your loving kindness, You have led the people whom
35:38: You have redeemed. In Your strength, You have guided them to Your holy habitation. The peoples have heard.
35:45: They tremble. Anguish has gripped the inhabitants of Philistia. Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed.
35:51: The leaders of Moab trembling grips them. All the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away.
35:57: Terror and dread fall upon them. By the greatness of Your arm, they are motionless as stone until Your people pass over,
36:04: O Lord, until the people pass over whom You have purchased. You will bring them and plant them in the mountain of Your inheritance, the place,
36:11: O Lord, which You have made for Your dwelling, the sanctuary, O Lord, which Your hands have established. The Lord shall reign forever and ever.
36:21: The horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemen went into the sea and the Lord brought back the waters of the sea on them.
36:28: But the sons of Israel walked on dry land through the midst of the sea. Miriam the prophetess, Aaron's sister, took the timbrel in her hand and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dancing.
36:37: Miriam answered them, Sing to the Lord for He is highly exalted. The horse and his rider He has hurled into the sea.
36:45: Just a moment before I ask you to stand as we pray. I chose that scripture reading long before Hamas decided to do what they are doing in Israel, way earlier in this week, and probably
36:55: Josh chose Psalm 2 before any of that has happened. But this is a reminder because in the message today,
37:01: I'm going to be preaching on the subject of God shaking the nations and the judgment that is to come upon the entire world.
37:09: So these events that are going on in our world should help, I think, inform that and I will try during this message, though I didn't prepare this message with the modern events in mind,
37:21: I'm going to take it as a providence from God that some of the things that we're going to cover in the passage today will help frame some of our understanding of these things.
37:28: What I want you to notice here is that it is appropriate and right and biblical and inspired for God's people to praise
37:35: God for His righteous judgments and to rejoice when the wicked perish. That is not an unbiblical sentiment.
37:42: It is a biblical sentiment. The whole premise of that psalm of praise in extolling God was the fact that He triumphed over His enemies and destroyed the wicked.
37:51: It is appropriate to pray for that and it is appropriate to thank God when it happens. So will you stand with me as we pray?
38:01: Let's bow our heads. Our Father, our world is in turmoil. The nations rage and they plot together against you and against your anointed.
38:11: And all of these happenings, the earthquakes, the nations rising up against nation, Russia and Ukraine, Hamas and Israel, China and Taiwan, none of these things escape your notice.
38:22: They are all part of your appointed plan. We can trust you in the midst of them and know that you are working out your eternal purposes in and through all of the events that you have allowed to transpire, that you have caused to transpire.
38:37: These are events that will usher in and bring in the coming of Christ for that is the ultimate end of all of creation.
38:46: The complete dissolution of all things and a new heavens and a new earth, judgment upon all of the nations and the return of our
38:52: King. And we long for and look forward to the return of that King for it is only then that we shall have peace anywhere, let alone worldwide.
39:02: We long for that day and we look forward to it because you have fixed our hope and our eternity in heaven and by heavenly things.
39:10: You by your grace have caused us to look to you and to trust in you and we know that that trust and that confidence is not in vain and will not be disappointed.
39:20: So we pray that in the midst of all of these afflictions and trials that you would be protecting all over the world your people, those whom you have redeemed and purchased.
39:31: We pray that you would protect them, protect the innocent. We pray that you would crush the plans of evil men and even crush those who are doing evil now.
39:40: We pray that their plans, their purposes may come to nothing, that you would turn their evil intent upon their own heads and destroy the wicked and use just actions of governments to do that very thing.
39:54: To protect innocent people and to establish law and to protect people is our desire and our longing for we know that many people are suffering even now as we sit here in comfort and peace and tranquility.
40:06: We sometimes think that we have a right to these things and that these things will always be the case but we have no guarantee of any peace in this world only that we may look to the
40:16: Prince of Peace and know that it is in Him and in our eternal destiny that all of our hope resides.
40:22: We pray that you would work out your purposes, secret and sovereign and hidden, providential that we would see good come out of these things, that you would as you execute judgment in this world,
40:34: Lord accomplish your eternal purposes for the glory of your name and the good of your people. We pray for the coming of our
40:41: King, even so come quickly Lord Jesus. And all God's people said Amen. I rest me in the thought

43:01: In Psalm 90 verses 7 to 12 It says for we have been consumed By your anger and by your wrath
43:07: We have been dismayed You have set our iniquities before You our secret sins in the light
43:13: Of your presence for all Our days have declined in your Fury we have finished
43:19: Our years like a sigh As for the days Of our life they contain 70 years
43:25: Or if due to might 80 Years yet their pride Is but labor and wickedness
43:31: For soon it is gone And we will fly away Who knows the power of your
43:37: Anger and your fury according To the fear that is due you So teach us to number our
43:43: Days that we may present to You a heart of wisdom We're gonna sing this morning

48:09: We're going to begin reading at verse 25 We'll read through the end of verse 29 Hebrews 12 verse 25
48:16: See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking For those did not escape when they refused
48:22: Him Who warned them on earth Much less will we escape who turn away from Him Who warns from heaven And His voice shook the earth then
48:29: But now He has promised Saying yet once more I will shake not only the earth But also the heaven
48:35: This expression yet once more Denotes the removing of those things Which can be shaken as of Created things so that those things which
48:43: Cannot be shaken may remain Therefore since we receive a Kingdom which cannot be shaken
48:49: Let us show gratitude by which we may Offer to God an acceptable service With reverence and awe
48:54: For our God is a consuming fire Let's pray. Our father it is our desire
49:00: Today that you would use your word The power of your Holy Spirit To comfort our hearts
49:05: To encourage us To equip us to think biblically about Your judgments and what lies ahead
49:12: And we pray that Through our meditation upon your word That you would sanctify us by your truth
49:17: And draw near to us now In our time of meditation And study together We ask this in the name of Christ our
49:24: Lord Amen Everything that can be measured Or experienced by your
49:32: Senses is destined to pass away Everything Everything we touch
49:37: Everything you taste everything you feel Everything you smell Everything that is otherwise
49:43: Experienced physically in this World will pass away It is passing away because Nothing around you that you interact
49:52: With is eternal as we're talking About the spirits of the just Made perfect other believers
49:57: But physically speaking everything In this world and about this world Is going to pass away and sometimes
50:03: That is hard for us to grasp because We tend to think that the things That we experience in this world are
50:09: Everlasting they seem everlasting To us because as long As we have existed these things
50:15: Have existed right they were here Before we got here and They're here while we're here and then when
50:21: We are gone they're here after We're gone so if something Has existed for as long and The entire duration of Our existence then what could be more
50:31: Eternal and everlasting than that Something that preceded us something that Will go on after us and something that is here the whole
50:37: Time that we are here If they existed before we were here Then it kind of looks to us like They will exist for as long
50:45: As anything exists after we Are gone and so we are deceived In a sense by our
50:51: Senses into assuming Or at least acting in some cases As if everything in this world
50:58: Is everlasting and Eternal and will always be here when in Fact it won't All things have a beginning that by the way
51:05: Is the definition of a thing something that Has a beginning God is not a thing because God didn't Have a beginning if God had a
51:11: Beginning he would be a thing but God is not A thing therefore he has no beginning God is the creator of all things
51:17: And all things have a beginning And all things that have a beginning Also will have an end
51:24: Kings Will come and kings will go Nations will rise
51:29: And nations will crumble There was a time when Babylon Was not and then
51:35: Babylon Was and now Babylon is Not again So all things come
51:41: Into being all things go out of being The same can be said not just Of Babylon but also
51:46: Edom And Moab and Persia and Greece and Rome and Hundreds of other
51:53: Nations and if you Were born at the height Of the Babylonian empire
51:58: And you had been there to experience And live your entire life under the Military genius of Nebuchadnezzar And the financial success
52:07: Of that the world's greatest kingdom At the time you would have Thought that Babylon was here before I Got here and now
52:14: I am enjoying all of this And certainly it's going to last forever I mean who in the world could possibly
52:19: Nebuchadnezzar and take all that He has built who could subdue Babylon Mighty Babylon That's what
52:25: Nebuchadnezzar said right Right before his sanity Was taken away from him look at this
52:31: This Babylon that I have built He had visions of grandeur Charles Spurgeon Said this looking back through history you will
52:39: Observe many periods of Tremendous shakings the records Of which are indelibly engraved
52:45: Upon human memory An empire Has been piled up by conquest
52:50: And cemented by policy and power Monarchs of gigantic Mind have been sustained by armies
52:56: Of indomitable valor and great Dynasties have been established whose Reign promised to be as Enduring as the sun but God has shaken and the diadem
53:06: Has fallen and the kingdom Becomes desolate Babylon Sat as a queen and said
53:12: I shall see No sorrow but she became desolate And her palaces crumbled into a heap of ruins The power of Persia Wore the aspect of permanence and Proudly claimed universal dominion
53:23: But the iron rod of Alexander Broke it in pieces as a potter's vessel Nor could the
53:28: Macedonian Empire long continue but soon Gave place to the mightier power Of Rome which with all its
53:34: Valiant legions lasted but its time And then like a bowing wall Fell headlong to the ground
53:40: Even as a moment's foam Dissolves into the wave that Bears it and is lost forever
53:46: So dynasties, republics Empires all Pass away as a
53:53: Dream when one awakes Their image is gone forever We want
54:01: To believe That the American dollar will always be The reserve currency of the entire world
54:06: And it will be as valuable tomorrow As it is today We all want to believe
54:13: That our investments are always secure That they will always increase In value and that when we retire
54:19: They will be there To provide for us the standard Of living to which we have always wished to Become accustomed
54:26: We want to believe that our borders Will always be drawn in the exact Same place that they are today
54:32: That borders will mean something And that this country that Existed when
54:38: I was born Will exist long after I die and pass away from the scene
54:44: We all want To believe that there are things in this world That cannot be shaken That cannot be undone
54:50: That cannot be destroyed That there are things in this world that are not Subject to the tipsy
54:56: Turvy turmoil That plagues all of creation That's what we want to believe
55:03: But the promise of scripture Is that eventually it will all pass away It's all going away That's not just a
55:11: A hopeful reflection On the future, that is a promise That God has made It will all pass away
55:17: The coming cataclysmic judgment That will fall upon this world will bring an end To everything that is ultimately
55:24: That is not ultimately eternal And that is the result Of God's final future judgment
55:30: Everything that can be shaken will be shaken Everything that is not eternal Will be taken away so that only that Which is eternal remains
55:37: And that is the subject of our passage here in Hebrews chapter 12 In verse 25 We saw that God's past pattern of judgments
55:44: Against sin and disobedience Is a motivation for obeying him now God has a pretty good track record
55:50: What he has done in the past he will do in the future So verse 26 and 27 Speak of God's Final future judgment against sin
55:57: And disobedience God continues to judge sin and he will do so In the future and ultimately
56:03: All of his past judgments against sin And all of the Present judgments against sin
56:10: They will all ultimately culminate In one final shaking One final judgment
56:16: That will destroy everything That is created And consume all of it by fire
56:21: So that you and I who have trusted in Christ May be ushered into And receive an unshakable kingdom
56:27: A kingdom which cannot be shaken That is what our passage is teaching us We looked at verse 26 last week
56:33: And noted that that is the caps There in your verse in your translation Or a quotation from the book of Haggai And we spent our time going through the prophecy of Haggai To see its significance for the author
56:43: Of Hebrews and the parallels there with With the condition of these original Hebrew readers of this epistle
56:49: Verse 27 is a Commentary on verse 26 As he is explaining what verse 26
56:55: In Haggai is referring to So let's read together verses 26 And 27 this is the promise
57:01: Of God's future judgment Verse 26 and his voice Shook the earth then that's referring to Sinai mentioned in verses 18 to 21
57:09: His voice shook the earth then But now he has promised saying Yet once more I will shake not only
57:15: The earth but also the heaven This expression yet once more notice He's offering a commentary on his
57:21: Citation of verse 26 denotes the Removing of those things which can be shaken As of created things so That those things which cannot be shaken
57:29: May remain Verse 28 therefore since we receive A kingdom which cannot be shaken
57:35: Let us show gratitude by which we may Offer to God an acceptable service with reverence And awe for our
57:40: God is a consuming fire There are three features of this Coming judgment that are described In this passage first it is promised
57:47: Second it is final And third it is cataclysmic It is a promised final
57:54: Cataclysmic judgment Now we are speaking or I am Speaking I should say today you're listening I'm speaking
57:59: Just to be clear but I'm speaking of The final judgment that is to come These are eschatological issues dealing
58:05: With issues of the end time the events Of the end times so I Know that going into this we have some post
58:10: Millennial and all millennial people who here who do Not necessarily share my eschatology So I will
58:17: Give you grace as you hold your nose Through most of this sermon as we do Deal with the order and nature of End times events
58:23: I will I will give you grace As you hold your nose for this I ask The same in response to you I ask that you give me
58:28: Grace as I teach you biblical eschatology So Plenty of grace to go along I show
58:35: You grace you show me grace and we'll all get Along The judgment that is described here is promised
58:40: Verse 26 and his voice Shook the earth then but now he has promised Saying yet once more
58:45: I will shake not only the earth But also the heaven this is a promise of God It's given in the Old Testament In the book of Haggai and Because it is something that God has promised
58:54: It is an unalterable promise meaning that God's very Reputation is on the
59:00: Line as to whether or not he keeps Or doesn't keep that promise If God does not judge all of Creation and all
59:08: Sin then he would be Unjust he would be unrighteous There's not a single
59:14: Sin that has ever been committed That will not be judged either On the sinner who commits
59:20: That sin or on the Head of the substitute who Stands in the place of the sinner to bear
59:26: That wrath on the sinner's part But all sin will be judged Every last crime that has ever
59:32: Been committed is going to receive The full justice that is due to it Because God's character his nature is on The line he must judge sin
59:41: Righteousness and Justice are the foundation of his throne Psalm 89 verse 14 Isaiah 45 says
59:47: I have sworn By myself the word has gone forth From my mouth in righteousness and will Not turn back that to me every knee will bow
59:53: And every tongue will swear allegiance Every last person Will swear allegiance to Jesus Christ not every last person will be
01:00:01: Will be saved but every last Sin will be judged there will be A thorough vetting and a thorough
01:00:08: Undoing of all of creation As sin is dealt with In its entirety because Sin cannot ultimately triumph
01:00:16: Wickedness and evil cannot Ultimately triumph God's reputation is On the line every word of God Shall come to pass no promise of his
01:00:23: Will fail not the ones we Like and not the ones we don't like We're familiar with the promises
01:00:29: We like I will never leave you nor forsake you He will supply All of your needs according to his riches in Christ Jesus if you have believed
01:00:37: In him you will never perish but have eternal life Those are the promises we like Those are the promises that fill us with The warm fuzzies those are the ones
01:00:45: We we stitch on the on the pillow That we put on the couch and we put on the calendar That we hang on the wall those are the promises
01:00:51: That they get there but how about the ones that say I will judge every last sin I will shake All of creation that the present
01:00:57: Heavens in the present earth this is what I would like to see I would like to see a calendar With a beautiful picture of some sunset
01:01:03: And then written across the bottom Of it 2nd Peter chapter 3 verse 7 the present heavens in the present earth
01:01:09: Are being kept by the word of God for the day of the judgment Upon wicked men
01:01:15: And then it will all be consumed with fire We should do that As like a fundraiser or something
01:01:24: Create those that kind of calendar The same virtue in God's Character that has secured
01:01:32: Your salvation are the same Virtues of God's character that ensure the Damnation of the wicked
01:01:39: Because he is Just he will not punish you For your sin if you have trusted in Jesus Christ his justice will not allow
01:01:46: It would be unjust For God to pour out his wrath upon his Son so that he pays the penalty
01:01:52: For your sin and then for God to turn around and take all That wrath and pour it out on your head
01:01:58: It would be unjust for God to Condemn a single sinner Who has trusted in his son
01:02:03: One sinner for whom Christ has died it would Be unjust for God to throw that sinner Into hell if Christ his
01:02:10: Surety his substitute His wrath bearer his sin Bearer has been punished in his stead
01:02:15: That would be a violation of God's justice For God to do that likewise It will be a violation of God's justice
01:02:22: If he allows one Sinner who has no substitute to Escape the damnation that is due
01:02:27: To them for their sin that would be Unjust God would be Unfaithful if he were to not save The one who has trusted in his son
01:02:35: Since he has promised that all who trust In his son will not be turned away Will not perish but that he will save them
01:02:42: And sanctify them and secure them Forevermore so God would Be unfaithful to his word if he
01:02:48: Were to cast even one believing And trusting one who has Trusted in his son into damnation
01:02:54: Just as it would be unfaithful for God He'd be unfaithful to his word for Him to not punish the wicked for the sins
01:03:00: That they have committed so every Last sin must and will be punished The promise of full
01:03:06: And final judgment upon this creation Is as certain as Any other promise that God has made
01:03:12: And it would be easier for you To put out the sun With water balloons than it would be for you to keep
01:03:18: God from fulfilling his promise to judge this world It is that certain It must and it will happen
01:03:24: And it cannot happen otherwise Haggai 2 verse 6 This says the Lord of hosts once more
01:03:29: Once more in a little while I'm going to shake The heavens and the earth the sea also and the Dry land
01:03:34: Haggai chapter 2 Verse 21 speak to Zerubbabel governor Of Judah saying
01:03:40: I'm going To shake the heavens and the earth I will overthrow The thrones of kingdoms and Destroy the power of the kingdoms of the nations
01:03:46: And I will overthrow the chariots And their riders and the horses And their riders will go down everyone
01:03:52: By the sword of another And by the way this is intended To be a comfort and Consolation to the believer
01:04:00: The judgment of God Should console us It should comfort us When you read in Psalm 37
01:04:07: That the wicked will not inherit the land But instead the wicked will perish They will be judged and they will go away
01:04:13: And their memory will be forgotten but the righteous Will inherit the land that is intended To comfort you when you read
01:04:20: In Psalm 73 when Asaph Asked why do the wicked perish and the answer To that is God gives the wicked
01:04:26: Those blessings sorry those Riches not as a blessing but as a curse Because he is lifting them up so that their
01:04:32: Fall may be greater and their destruction May be more severe and their judgment More demonstrable that is why
01:04:37: God is doing that When you read that that is not intended To make you feel sorry for the wicked it is intended To comfort you the imprecatory
01:04:44: Psalms that speak of God turning the Design of the wicked back upon themselves So that they receive the judgment
01:04:50: That they try and inflict upon other people That is intended to comfort believers The Exodus Judgments that fell upon Egypt that was a
01:04:59: Comfort and a source of praise to the Israelites and they sang God's praises for the judgments that fell upon Egypt I remind you what we
01:05:07: Read earlier Psalm sorry Exodus 15 verse 9 the enemy said I will Pursue I will overtake
01:05:13: I will divide The spoil my desire shall be gratified Against them I will draw out my sword My hand will destroy them
01:05:19: That is the wording of Pharaoh It is the enemy who said this You blew with your wind the sea
01:05:25: Covered them they sank like lead in the mighty Waters who is like you among the Gods O Lord who is like you
01:05:31: Majestic in holiness awesome In praises working wonders You stretch out your right hand the earth
01:05:37: Swallowed them And they praised at that When Paul wanted to comfort
01:05:43: The Thessalonians for the affliction that they were Enduring here's what he wrote to them 2nd Thessalonians Chapter 1 we ought always to give
01:05:49: Thanks to God for you brethren as is only Fitting because your faith is greatly Enlarged and the love of each one of You toward one another grows even greater
01:05:57: Therefore we ourselves speak Proudly of you among the churches of God For your perseverance and faith in the midst
01:06:03: Of all your persecutions And afflictions which you Endure this
01:06:09: Is a plain indication of God's righteous Judgment so that you will be Considered worthy of the kingdom of God for which
01:06:15: Indeed you are suffering for after all It is only just for God To repay with affliction those
01:06:21: Who afflict you and to give Relief to you who are afflicted And to us as well when the
01:06:26: Lord Jesus will Be revealed from heaven with his Mighty angels in flaming fire Dealing out retribution to those who
01:06:33: Do not know God and to those who do Not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus They will pay the penalty
01:06:39: Of eternal destruction away from The presence of the Lord and from the glory Of his power when he comes to be
01:06:45: Glorified in his saints on that day And to be marveled at among all Who have believed for our testimony
01:06:51: To you was believed This was a comfort to the Thessalonians Paul says to them it is only right
01:06:57: It's only just it's only appropriate that God would Afflict those who afflict you So how were the
01:07:02: Thessalonians to respond To that Paul's reminder Those who are persecuting you who are afflicting You who are seeking to destroy you
01:07:09: God is going to destroy them in eternal Fire in eternal flame it's only the just thing For God to do those people who are afflicting you
01:07:15: He will afflict them they will get what is Coming to them how are the Thessalonians to respond To that you see this is
01:07:21: Precisely the point at which Possibly well intentioned but Certainly virtue signaling
01:07:26: Christians Want to clutch their pearls and say oh that Wouldn't be right for us to rejoice at such news
01:07:31: Paul intended them to Rejoice at that how do you Comfort those who have endured
01:07:37: A great conflict of sufferings Have been imprisoned for their faith And had their possessions seized
01:07:43: As these early Hebrews had We find that out at the end of chapter 10 How do you comfort them except to remind them
01:07:48: One of these days God is going to shake All of creation and he is going to Destroy the wicked and he is going to Usher his people who have trusted in him
01:07:56: Into an eternal and unshakable kingdom And you will receive the reward We don't clutch our pearls and say
01:08:02: I can't take joy or delight or comfort In that instead We say praise be to God For when he
01:08:10: Judges the wicked we will Give him praise and honor
01:08:16: And glory and it will not be in the least Bit begrudging Now this does not mean that we should hate
01:08:24: The wicked this does not mean That we should seek to do them harm It does not mean that we
01:08:30: Should laugh at their destruction or take Personal joy from their pain But it does mean that we can glorify
01:08:36: God for his just judgments It means that we can rejoice When his justice is vindicated
01:08:42: And his name is made great And the wicked perish When God destroys
01:08:48: The wicked from amongst society It should be the natural Inclination of the believing
01:08:54: Child of God to say thank you Lord for your just judgments I would long for that wicked
01:09:00: Person to repent and come to faith In Christ yes that is true I would long for them to do that In order that they may stop doing their wickedness
01:09:08: But if my two options Are the wicked persist In their wickedness
01:09:14: Or God judges them and stops Their wickedness by ending their life I will choose the second option
01:09:20: That is better for all Other people it is better for human Flourishing it is for the glory of God's name that is the type
01:09:30: Of judgment that is promised and you and I can rejoice In it because we are rejoicing In the vindication of God's holiness and his
01:09:36: Righteousness and it Is even appropriate I think To pray in Preparatory prayers where We are asking
01:09:44: God to end What is wicked Even if that means destroying the wicked
01:09:49: Among us as he would do in his Justice and his perfect timing So that the innocent may be spared
01:09:55: And the righteousness may flourish And that the wicked may take notice Those are appropriate
01:10:01: And holy sentiments Now second This judgment is promised second The judgment described here in verse 27 is final
01:10:09: You see that phrase in verse 27 This expression yet once more The author quotes what he just quoted back in Verse 26 he says it denotes
01:10:17: The removing of those things which can be shaken As of created things So when the author says yet once More he is
01:10:25: Not saying that there is only going to be One more divine judgment After the Babylonian exile remember
01:10:31: That was the context in which Haggai was writing They had come out of exile and they were back Into the land that Haggai is reminding
01:10:37: Look there is coming a future judgment And he says yet once more I will shake Not only the earth but also the heavens
01:10:42: So the author quotes that and then says This yes once more is signifying That the destruction that Haggai was
01:10:49: Talking about was not just One random judgment that was to come Sometime in Israel's future
01:10:54: He is describing not just another judgment But the final judgment It's yes once more in the sense that Yes one final time
01:11:02: There is going to be a shaking and this shaking Is going to be the greatest shaking ever There would be not one more
01:11:09: Judgment after Babylonian exile But many more judgments and there have been other Judgments by the hand of God The destruction of Jerusalem in 70
01:11:16: AD was a judgment From the hand of God Jesus said that but that's not what Haggai was talking about There are going to be tribulation judgments
01:11:22: But that's not going to be the final judgment There have been more judgments Between Haggai's time or the
01:11:28: Hebrews time and our time There will be more judgments after our time Before the end time
01:11:34: Before the final judgment There is a sense in which God's judgment Is continual and ongoing
01:11:40: We sometimes think of God's judgments As being these episodic Events in human history that are
01:11:46: Magnificent and demonstrable like the Flood and Sodom and Gomorrah and the Tower of Babel and the
01:11:52: Babylonian exile And the Assyrian exile that these are The judgments of God. You look through history and say There's one, there's one, there's one
01:11:58: That's the wrong way to think about the judgment of God The wrath of God Is revealed from heaven against All ungodliness and unrighteousness
01:12:06: Of men So always God is judging sin Always When you do something sinful
01:12:15: And consequences flow from that God is judging sin God is judging sin in all
01:12:22: The nations all of the time Nations going to war With one another is a judgment from God Wicked rulers are a judgment of God Yes these massive
01:12:32: Episodic events in human history Where we see these destructions and These things happening on a global or national
01:12:38: Scale those are the judgments of God But listen When a congresswoman who has defended every kind Of evil imaginable and has
01:12:46: Leveraged all of her wealth All of her power and all of her influence To promote every form of ungodliness
01:12:52: Imaginable in the land Her doing that is a judgment Upon those who have voted for her
01:12:58: And then when God ends her life After she's been in congress for 150 years And God ends her life
01:13:04: And casts her into eternal destruction And then pours out his wrath upon her Forevermore that is a judgment
01:13:10: Of God and God killing her Ending her life is a judgment from God So it's not just the
01:13:16: Massive events sometimes God's judgments are national Sometimes they're global sometimes they catch
01:13:22: Your attention sometimes they make the headlines Sometimes they go unnoticed When the little lady across the street
01:13:29: Who is an atheist Who makes cookies for everybody in the neighborhood Dies without Christ Her death is a
01:13:36: Judgment of God upon her And when she goes into a Christless eternity The judgment of God falls upon her
01:13:42: Reported in the headlines? Nope God is Always indignant
01:13:48: With the wicked every single day This whole world is under judgment This nation
01:13:54: Is under judgment Though there may be many and varied judgments That precede the final judgments
01:14:01: The final judgment Though there may be many and varied judgments That precede the final judgment
01:14:06: That final judgment against sin Will be creation wide It will be
01:14:13: Worldwide it will be Universal And every judgment
01:14:18: Small and great That has ever happened in human history Has been a reminder of the judgment to come
01:14:24: A preview of what is to come A seal On what is to come A warning of what is to come
01:14:32: And the righteous And the wise will take notice And receive the warning that is intended
01:14:38: So this judgment that is to come Is promised at its final third It is cataclysmic It's going to affect all created things
01:14:46: Because all of creation groans Under the curse Everything is dying Nothing is eternal Nothing is lasting
01:14:52: Everything is decaying Everything is perishing Everything is running down It is all temporary
01:14:57: And this judgment that is being described Will purge all of creation Just as God's word created everything
01:15:04: Out of nothing So by God's word He will decreate Uncreate and undo everything that exists
01:15:10: And he will do it by fire 2 Peter chapter 3 verse 7 This is the one that belongs on a calendar
01:15:16: By his word The present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire Kept for the day of judgment
01:15:22: And the destruction of ungodly men 2 Peter chapter 3 verse 10 The day of the
01:15:27: Lord will come like a thief In which the heavens will pass away With a roar and the elements will be destroyed With intense heat
01:15:32: And the earth and its works will be burned up Since all these things
01:15:37: Are to be destroyed in this way What sort of people ought you to be In holy conduct and godliness Looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God Because of which the heavens will be destroyed
01:15:47: By burning and the elements will melt With intense heat But according to his promise we are looking for a new heavens
01:15:53: And a new earth in which righteousness dwells This is not global warming That Peter is describing
01:15:59: Yes the world is going to get hot All of creation is going to get hot Intense heat But this judgment
01:16:07: Has nothing to do with your carbon footprint It has nothing to do with how much you recycle How much gas you burn
01:16:13: This world is a temporary world And it is intended to be used up Because it is not going to last forever
01:16:18: God does not intend it to last forever And that is a biblical world view of creation This world is a disposable world
01:16:25: It is not the last world Therefore yes we should take care of it I shouldn't throw trash into my neighbor's yard
01:16:30: Not just because I don't like him throwing trash into my yard But because I appreciate the beauty of what
01:16:35: God has given to us And I ought to be a steward of this thing But I ought not to be afraid of consuming resources
01:16:40: And using resources For the betterment of mankind either This world is disposable John MacArthur once said
01:16:46: If the environmentalists get all upset With what they see us doing to the environment Wait until they see what
01:16:51: Jesus is going to do He is going to consume the entire thing With heat and with fire This world is not going to end
01:16:58: Because you and I burn too much gas Or we use plastic straws Or because we use our air conditioning too much
01:17:04: It is a resilient creation That will last exactly as long As God intends it to last There is a mass extinction event coming
01:17:11: Where the world will burn Everything will be consumed And there will be a worldwide judgment
01:17:19: And that judgment Is not just going to be on earth But heavens and the earth All of it is going to be shaken
01:17:25: Just as worms will consume And destroy your body And yet it will be raised up In a glorious, new
01:17:32: And immortal body So it is true that fire will consume This entire creation
01:17:38: Every atom will be dissolved And it will be recreated into a new And glorious creation
01:17:45: Then I saw the new heaven and the new earth For the first heaven and the first earth passed away And there is no longer any sea
01:17:50: And I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem Coming down out of heaven from God Made ready as a bride adorned for her husband
01:17:56: That is His promise A new creation Christ will return and He will judge
01:18:02: The world and He will judge the nations He will establish His kingdom And fulfill His promise
01:18:08: That He made to David That will last for a thousand years here And then after that final judgment When this entire creation is consumed by fire
01:18:15: He will recreate a new heavens and a new earth In that same kingdom, that same king And those same subjects will continue
01:18:21: Into the new heavens and the new earth And it will go on forever and ever and ever And there will be no end
01:18:27: To the increase of His reign Or of His kingdom forever And Daniel 7 .18 says the saints of the highest one
01:18:34: Will receive that kingdom And possess the kingdom forever For all the ages to come
01:18:39: And there will be no nation rising against nation There will be no crime in the streets There will be no wickedness
01:18:45: It will be a creation in which Only righteousness dwells That is what we have been promised
01:18:51: Spurgeon said this world Is a mere revolving ball As to human life and hopes founded
01:18:57: Upon it will surely come to naught As will a house of cards in a storm Here we have no abiding
01:19:03: City and it is in vain To attempt to build one This world is not the rock beneath our feet
01:19:09: Which it seems to be The coming judgment is promised It is final and it will be
01:19:15: Utterly cataclysmic And every judgment that falls Upon one sinner or thousands of sinners
01:19:21: Between now and that judgment Is a reminder and a warning that that judgment is coming And it cannot be escaped
01:19:27: And so I ask you where in lies your hope Where in lies your hope
01:19:33: In things which can be shaken And are passing away Things destined to the flame In a world that is ripe for judgment
01:19:39: In the pleasures and treasures of this world Where does your hope rest In things which are unshakable
01:19:46: Blessings that belong to the souls Of the righteous made perfect Things like your adoption, your forgiveness
01:19:52: The righteousness of Christ The merits of his life and death Your standing before God, the seal of the
01:19:57: Holy Spirit The indwelling of the Spirit The intercession of Christ for you Your treasure in heaven which is imperishable
01:20:03: And undefiled and will not fade away The church of the firstborn, the redeemed saints The kingdom that is to come
01:20:09: These things cannot be shaken These things cannot be undone And however the nations rage
01:20:16: And whatever happens around us And whatever the headlines read tomorrow morning When we all wake up Whatever destruction has been wrought
01:20:22: In whatever corner of the globe that is highlighted tomorrow morning We have this for certain And this we know
01:20:28: We will receive an unshakable kingdom After it is all shaken
01:20:34: And everything temporary Everything created Is destroyed by fire in that final judgment
01:20:40: You and I will be ushered into An eternal and final and unshakable kingdom That is your comfort
01:20:46: That is your hope And so I say to you believer, fix your eyes on Jesus The author and perfecter of your faith
01:20:51: Who for the joy that was set before him Ran the race and endured the cross And has sat down at the right hand of God And remember the encouragement from Hebrews 12 verses 1 to 3
01:21:00: He sits at the finish line even now And he tells you to fix your hope on that To fix your eyes on that And to lay off every sin and encumbrance
01:21:08: Which so easily entangles you And run your race with diligence and with faithfulness Knowing that you will receive an unshakable kingdom
01:21:14: Let's pray Father we thank you for providing for us so much
01:21:20: Hope and encouragement And strength from your word If all we had in this life
01:21:26: Was this world to fix our hope upon We would be of all men most to be pitied But instead we have a risen savior
01:21:33: Who even now sits At the father's right hand And intercedes for us We have the
01:21:39: Holy Spirit who dwells within us To comfort and encourage us We have a gospel that has assured us
01:21:45: That our sins are atoned for And taken out of the way We have a revelation of scripture that reminds us
01:21:51: That because of your justice And your faithfulness and your truth That we who have believed upon Christ Can never perish
01:21:58: But that we will receive an imperishable And an unshakable kingdom And so we pray that you would
01:22:04: Comfort our hearts through these things And by these things That you would unite us together in the truth
01:22:10: And our love for Christ We pray that you would give us strength to Occupy until our king comes
01:22:16: And to keep our eyes and our hearts fixed On that goal and that reward So that we may rejoice
01:22:22: In not only the expressions Of your goodness and grace Towards those who are yours
01:22:27: But also that we may rejoice in Your just judgments in this world With the hope and the certainty
01:22:33: That all of it will culminate In your own glory and in the good Of those who have called upon your name
01:22:39: We pray these things And thank you for these things In the name of Christ our king
