- 00:04
- I got new socks, no not these socks. I got like winter knitted socks.
- 00:13
- Me and Mercedes both looked at your face. You can't see my socks right now. We both went, right?
- 00:20
- They're right there. Only you.
- 00:29
- Are we on the right page? I hope so. The last time?
- 00:40
- No. Good evening everybody and welcome to tonight's
- 00:53
- Bible study. I'm Vicki.
- 00:59
- Everyone remembers Mercedes. Tonight we have the honor of having a member of our college and career class group with us.
- 01:13
- This is Miss Taylor Nichols. She's been coming to Whitten for many years.
- 01:20
- I think eight or nine. There you go. And she is a member of our college and career group which is going camping this weekend.
- 01:29
- So fun. Ready. Mercedes is jealous. It's going to be 40s at night time.
- 01:36
- What? Yes, mid 40s night time. Good fire weather. No wonder you're jealous
- 01:42
- Mercedes. I'm sorry the old women don't do that stuff. If we did go camping we'd have to rent some
- 01:49
- RVs. That's not camping. That's RVing. Well, I could stay in an
- 01:54
- RV and y 'all could camp out on the ground. Somebody has to think of that sometimes.
- 02:03
- As long as I have an Inu and a tree, I'm fine. A what? An Inu. A what?
- 02:08
- Hammock. An Inu? It's a brand of hammock. And you need a tree.
- 02:15
- One tree? Two. I'm trying to find an Inu and a tree. Well, she said an
- 02:23
- Inu and a tree. I didn't know what an Inu was. It's just a really popular brand of hammocks and now people have called it
- 02:31
- Inu -ing or Inu -ing. Somebody's here. I don't know who it is.
- 02:36
- I'm not going to go look. Perfect. You're outside.
- 02:43
- Sorry. You can't answer the door. Anyways, so tonight, like I said, we're very happy to have
- 02:51
- Taylor with us. Taylor is very full of energy, as you will see as we go along. As always.
- 02:58
- So, when I look at her, I say, Taylor, slow down. It's okay. And when she starts talking real fast, if y 'all have to, just watch it later in slow motion.
- 03:12
- Download to an app, put it in slo -mo. She actually needs a dial on her so you can slow her down.
- 03:17
- Is that like a hearing aid? Have like a speaking aid? Yeah. Did your dad have that? He finally got one.
- 03:23
- I'm talking about him. Oh, no. Hearing aid. I was about to say, did he get a speaking aid to where he could keep up with you?
- 03:30
- Mr. Nichols, I think we need to be inventing something like that.
- 03:36
- Anyways, so we have... I don't believe so.
- 03:48
- Pause. Pause.
- 03:53
- I'm sorry. Why am I going to Facebook? I will call them.
- 03:58
- Hold on just a minute, people. I'm really sorry, but somebody keeps ringing the doorbell.
- 04:28
- Pastor Pam? We're in the middle of doing our lot, but somebody keeps ringing the doorbell.
- 04:37
- Thank you. Pastor Pam to the rescue. Okay, back to our
- 04:42
- Bible study. Anyways, so Taylor, normally we ask women what their go -to verse is or what is the scripture they've chosen to study for tonight.
- 04:55
- So is this your go -to verse or is this something that you want to study tonight?
- 05:00
- Just something I want to study tonight. Perfect. So, and what is that? It is Titus 2, 7 through 6.
- 05:09
- No, 10. My goodness. 7 through 6. See?
- 05:15
- I told y 'all. This is going to be so much fun. She just caught on to it.
- 05:22
- What? I thought we were doing 6 through 10. Oh, 6. Well, that one...
- 05:30
- But then it says in everything, period. Oh, the way verse numbers are popped in there.
- 05:42
- Oh, yours says a period.
- 05:47
- Okay, well there you go. Okay, Mercedes is going to start. Y 'all just keep up.
- 05:55
- Mercedes, go ahead. Alright, Titus 2, 7 through 10. 7 and a half through 10.
- 06:02
- 7 and 8. Okay, go.
- 06:07
- Make yourself an example of good works with integrity and dignity in your teaching. Your message is to be sound beyond reproach so that the opponent will be ashamed having nothing bad to say about us.
- 06:21
- Slaves are to be submissive to their masters in everything and be well -pleasing, not talking back or stealing, but demonstrating utter faithfulness so that they may adorn the teaching of God our
- 06:41
- Savior in everything. Okay, wait a minute, because I put the word be in there too somehow. So that they may adorn the teaching of God our
- 06:51
- Savior in everything. Because we were trying to make that word maybe. Yeah, yours is a bit different from mine because mine says teaching about God our
- 07:01
- Savior is attractive. And so it's just switched and a little bit different, but I was like, wait a minute, hold up.
- 07:10
- Yeah, it's more of a literal translation from the
- 07:16
- Greek text from what Pastor Josiah has said.
- 07:23
- Let your teaching be so correct that it can't be criticized.
- 07:31
- Then those who want to argue will be ashamed because they won't have anything bad to say about us.
- 07:38
- Slaves must obey their masters and do their best to please them.
- 07:44
- They must not talk back or steal, but they must show themselves to be entirely trustworthy and good.
- 07:53
- Then they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive in every way.
- 08:00
- There we go! Yeah! We made it through. We'll get there someday, guys.
- 08:08
- That is a little confused. Alright, so Taylor, why did you pick this for this evening?
- 08:18
- Well, including myself, I just noticed a lot more of discipling going on in the church and always more to be done.
- 08:27
- But just as a way, because to me it just showed an example. Even beginning of chapter 2, it just shows some examples of how to act either as an elder or as a person to disciple somebody.
- 08:44
- How should you set yourself as an example for the ones younger than you or the same age as you but don't have the same knowledge as you?
- 08:52
- Well, that's true because the little eyes, especially in your shoes, because you are now about to hit your early 20s.
- 09:05
- I'm turning 20 in 24 days. She's on top of her thing.
- 09:14
- It's October 1st. It's 24 days. Anyways, the younger kids in any situation, whether it be here at church or out there, because I know sometimes y 'all go to the soccer field and stuff.
- 09:31
- Y 'all as a group, what I'm talking about is there's a group of, well there's several groups in our church, but most of the time they all go somewhere.
- 09:39
- And the thing is, is that even when you're outside of church and you're out in public, the way that you represent yourself speaks volumes to the younger generation, period.
- 09:52
- That's just like with me. Let's not use me.
- 09:59
- With Mercedes. Like your generation looks at her generation.
- 10:06
- Because her generation ain't looking at my generation no more. Not like your generation is looking at hers.
- 10:13
- Oh, yeah. You see what I'm saying? Yeah. It's not as... Looking for guidance, almost, for the younger group.
- 10:21
- Not as much. Yeah. Not as much. You have a more firm foundation with them, whereas us, we're starting to get there.
- 10:27
- Right, where I can look at her and say, stop, and she already knows what I'm talking about. Mm -hmm. You see what
- 10:33
- I mean? Yeah. You get it? That's accurate. Right. Because I've already been there, done that.
- 10:39
- You know that. You know all the horror stories. So when I look at you and say, mm -mm, you basically already know what
- 10:47
- I'm talking about. Whereas at this stage, between here and here, you would need to explain to her the whole, what the stop means.
- 10:59
- You get it? Yes. Did that make any sense? It did. It did. Bless you, honey.
- 11:04
- That was a heart. Oh, my goodness. One more?
- 11:11
- Nope. That wasn't even a bad one. Have you seen me sneeze? Did your brain shake loose?
- 11:17
- No, it was my nose. That was huge. Have you ever sneezed so hard, but you're trying to conceal it, and your whole throat starts aching afterwards?
- 11:24
- No, Taylor. Don't do that again. I have to, like, every day. I usually bite my tongue. Wow. When I sneeze.
- 11:31
- That was pretty good. I'm scared to death to sneeze while I drive. Oh, I'm a master at sneezing while driving.
- 11:38
- Yeah, I'm scared I'm going to go, tch. Oh, no. I furred.
- 11:44
- Tch. Kept my eyes straight open. Anywho. Anywho.
- 11:51
- Anyways. Maybe don't spit. Maybe you spit on my water. But it is true, because discipleship never stops.
- 11:58
- No. Because if I was to sit here right now and totally lose it, and let's say
- 12:07
- Mercedes really made me mad about something, and I lose it in front of you, on her, not in a
- 12:18
- Christian -type way, or not in a way that Christ would, that I would reflect
- 12:24
- His love and His grace and His mercy, then that's not teaching you to be, to do the same.
- 12:32
- So, that's why I try my best not to throw shoes in public.
- 12:41
- No, just on mission trips in the hotel room. Oh, my God. It's fine.
- 12:47
- I try not to. Miss Vicki, come with her moo -moos. Girl, you don't have to wear that moo -moo on a mission trip.
- 12:54
- Yes, ma 'am. I saw you. Me and you were going to join you in wearing moo -moos next year. You were going to wear her moo -moo last year.
- 13:00
- Okay, she did, but we were going to buy new ones and come with her. You can put it on. She sounds very comfortable.
- 13:05
- Thank you. She was going to wear it at the little shopping center. Now here comes all my secrets about my moo -moo.
- 13:12
- Sorry, y 'all. Everybody already knows about the moo -moo. Anyway, so, I'm going to go ahead and say goodbye.
- 13:17
- But that's just me being an elder on a mission trip With a whole bunch of younger people
- 13:29
- Throwing flip -flops at them when they misbehave When you misbehave
- 13:36
- I mean, you know, but that's just showing you that I love y 'all and trust y 'all and y 'all don't judge me
- 13:42
- We join you In your movement You Yeah There was multiple
- 13:50
- Anyway, there was multiple Anyways, but I did look if you want to everyone go to first Peter 5
- 14:06
- This scripture I read it well, I know and it really bounces out of me and I think that I I Think it speaks volumes
- 14:17
- The way that we should be Presenting ourselves daily
- 14:30
- Because again You you don't know who's looking at you. You don't know who's paying attention to you and It just takes it just takes one time for that one youth
- 14:44
- To see you step out Across that line For them to say oh
- 14:52
- I Can do that too. I can do that too.
- 14:57
- Or why should I listen because she's being a hypocrite This is true, too, you know, hypocrisy is horrible.
- 15:05
- Anyways, so first Peter Says in the same way you younger men
- 15:13
- Be subject to the elders And all of you clothe yourselves with humility toward one another because God Resists the proud that gives grace to the humble
- 15:49
- That's the other thing too when it comes to discipleship is not being
- 16:00
- Well, then you reclaim says the same thing literally James says the exact same thing
- 16:13
- I'd resist the crowd that gives grace to the humble James six. No four six
- 16:23
- You said six six I was gonna say it's in first Peter five Awesome But anyways
- 16:34
- You have to you have to You cannot overstep that boundary either you have to constantly show humility you can't show that you're better than them
- 16:48
- You can't act like you're better than them because at one point in time you were there Like at one point in time, believe it or not.
- 16:56
- I was there at one point in time. Believe it or not. I was there and So feel sorry for y 'all because I'm already here
- 17:08
- You know, I thought I've also Often thought about that being in order sibling.
- 17:16
- Yeah, you know my teenage years. I was not I Was not an example to what your siblings that were?
- 17:27
- 10 11 years younger than me. Yeah. No, they they saw me be disrespectful and mouthy
- 17:34
- Yeah You know, I look back and I go man. I wish I really wish
- 17:42
- Well, see I was the youngest Older brother, so, you know what I did I sat back and watched out how he messed up and I knew not to do that See, I'm kind of in a weird aspect where both of my brothers are so much older Most of my all through middle school and high school.
- 17:58
- I was an only child And I barely have memories of elementary school of my brothers living with me that explains a lot
- 18:05
- So I'm only child basically, even though I did grow up with a very short time with my brothers
- 18:12
- Cuz one of them's 32 33 and the other ones 28 So and then
- 18:18
- I have a sort of step -sister. That's 37 36 and so They are older than you yes very much so You didn't have that Advantage that I had of watching them
- 18:34
- But then again, you didn't have the disadvantage of having Mercedes as an older sister teaching
- 18:44
- Like elementary school, it's like watching Futurama with my brother and so I Am so Anyway back to discipleship.
- 19:25
- Um, but yes Taylor you're on the right path You're right.
- 19:31
- We do have a lot of We have a whole lot of youth we have a whole lot of young Christians We have a lot of young adults in our church right now but most importantly
- 19:50
- It's not just doing that here is doing it everywhere that you are and remember that Soccer one of our newest members.
- 20:06
- He actually came out of us Soccer right and so that's just one of the ways that it's affected.
- 20:14
- Well, you know, and I think you're not just an example to the generation You can also be an example to the generation older than you
- 20:27
- That's what I said earlier. It's being a good example for us. Yeah works either way, you know we go out somewhere and You know
- 20:40
- There's an opportunity Say you're at the store and Somebody gets mad at you or something
- 20:52
- You have that opportunity to set an example of how you're going to react to the situation
- 21:00
- And even older people You know kind of like want to get closer to him in the line and call for that one
- 21:14
- You're right, you're right because even like if you're in the checkout and Let's say the lady that's checking out somebody slams into the back of your ankles with a card.
- 21:24
- Oh or The lady that's checking you out disappears
- 21:32
- Mm -hmm So, yeah, it can work both ways you're right
- 22:06
- Well, you know I also read here that a person cannot claim to be a
- 22:13
- Recipient of God's saving grace if he is not also a trainee in the lifestyle made possible by grace
- 22:22
- So who is a trainee who's being trained still is it a day -to -day
- 22:38
- It is a day -to -day Experience daily
- 22:44
- Like you said early well before we got started you're like you learn something new every single day
- 22:50
- Every day As long as you're open to it. Yes, as long as you're open to it.
- 22:55
- Well, my dad used to tell me Let me spit out some wise words from Sam If you go a day without learning something new you've wasted that day
- 23:17
- So, but it I mean it's a truth whether it be From co -worker or about a co -worker or about Scripture or just about life
- 23:30
- You wasted it so make sure y 'all learn something new every single day And do you have any other scripture
- 23:43
- Mercedes that spouts out to you I've already lost my place
- 23:51
- That's okay, I've had to rewrite the scripture that we're doing like three times Thank you, what chapters what page numbers try this in here 21 to you
- 24:26
- If you look though In the beginning part of Titus to it it speaks about and She decided to kind of shorten up which we appreciate
- 24:46
- And It does say Encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children to be self -controlled pure filmmakers
- 24:58
- But it also says in the same way encourage the young men to be self -controlled in everything
- 25:10
- Period Self -control in everything so That just speaks that it's it goes both ways
- 25:23
- For the young ladies and for the young men for the older women and for the older men and for all you middle -aged
- 25:41
- You're there Yeah, because you know,
- 25:51
- I'm supposed to be an example to Everybody We we don't have the
- 26:08
- Queen of Harsha here
- 26:14
- We'll take we'll take verse 11 and Titus To Talks about it even more for the grace of goddess appeared with salvation for all people
- 26:30
- Instructing us to deny godlessness and worldly loss and to live in a sensible righteous and godly way in the present age
- 26:39
- While we wait for the blessed hope and a period of glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ Especially now this present age, you know, this was written however many
- 26:54
- Thousands of years ago and it can be
- 27:00
- Applied even in our present age because It's kind of crazy out there
- 27:09
- I find a lot of comfort when it says stuff like that because I know It's like you hear about this like saving things, but when it says even in this present age
- 27:18
- It's not limited to whenever Titus was writing this Yes It's and the thing that struggle with now and things struggling with now and in this time frame
- 27:27
- They also had the same issues back then it was present age a hundred years after he wrote it.
- 27:34
- Yeah 500 years later in and they didn't have social media to deal with That's not social media
- 27:46
- Taylor, hey, it was their social media house and they find out about stuff gossip
- 27:52
- Which is what social media is I Pull out my scrolls.
- 28:06
- Okay. Yeah Post my scrolls on the wall today on the wall
- 28:16
- Let's post it there the original social media Courage and rebuke with all authority
- 28:28
- Let no one disregard you Yes chapter 3 starts with remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities to obey to be ready for every good work
- 28:44
- To slander no one to avoid fighting and to be kind always showing gentleness to all people
- 28:51
- Maybe we had a post that on our social media tonight But you know, it's going back to setting an example
- 29:18
- With Police officers and people of authority, you know, so many so many people
- 29:30
- They're just doing their job and we're called to obey our authorities even government
- 29:35
- As long as it's not outside biblical. Yes You know Or whatever you want to call it, yeah, you know leery to obey
- 29:47
- Not get mouthy with the police officer that pulls us over because we ran a red light and it's our own fault
- 29:59
- In a sense of like slandering like even like Presidents like people constantly slander, especially now
- 30:09
- And people constantly slandered them and degrade them completely and It's funny when in reality it's completely degrading the person regarding what their position is you're
- 30:23
- Degrading another person that God has created now if they're saved or not, you're still Degrading them.
- 30:30
- Yeah, because he still put them in authority. Yeah Asked for Kings back in the day.
- 30:41
- It's only if they go back now.
- 30:50
- Nope It's not a very big book three chapters
- 31:08
- Three and four and five it seems to be talking of just how to live a godly life.
- 31:15
- Yeah Example how to be above reproach
- 31:24
- Three fun At one time we were too foolish
- 31:34
- Disobedient deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures We lived in a malice and envy we lived in malice and envy being hated and hating one another
- 31:46
- But when the kindness and love of God of our Savior Appeared he saved us not because of righteous things we had done.
- 31:56
- Oh But of his mercy he saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the
- 32:02
- Holy Spirit whom he poured out on us Generously through Jesus Christ our Savior So that having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life
- 32:16
- I Say my father He saved us. I was like room not by works of righteousness
- 32:23
- Yes that we had done but according to his mercy through the washing of Regeneration I Love that word regeneration and renewal by the renewal rebirth regeneration.
- 32:38
- I'm loving it Okay So Well, guess what y 'all
- 32:47
- We just got a good part Taylor was getting excited it had rebirth
- 33:07
- Energy But Anyways, y 'all listen if you when you get a chance sit and read
- 33:15
- Titus It's not very long, but it's full. It's cool. Yeah, and This is why
- 33:25
- I love doing these Yeah, I like the fact that two different books written by two different people quote the exact same
- 33:36
- Proverbs 334 You're talking about you're still
- 33:41
- Titus We love doing this
- 33:55
- We can be tired and worn out from our busy day at work Doesn't matter.
- 34:01
- Yeah Doesn't matter the Lord's Word always has like some something wonderful to share
- 34:09
- So anyways, I want to thank you all for coming tonight if you made it I know some of you are a lot of you or most of you are probably cooking dinner doing dishes
- 34:19
- Hopefully you get to catch this all later or once it goes and hits YouTube, but Taylor Thank you so much for joining us tonight.
- 34:28
- It's always great to sit and chat with you It's it's a lot
- 34:33
- I'll have to I'm gonna be honest though It's a lot easier sitting here talking to you because when she's standing and talking to you, she's just I yeah
- 34:43
- So you So I love sitting so the next time you come up to me in church and I sit down let me sit
- 34:57
- So anyways, I hope you have a great time this weekend and thank you. Thanks y 'all for coming tonight and again have a blessed weekend.
