The more I've been hearing about this Tim Chalies guy, the more this video makes sense, but the sadder it becomes.

Before we get into today's portion of our response, I did want to mention there was a commenter on my last video that mentioned something that I found was extremely interesting.

A Tim Chalice article, which he talks about how he can't watch the show Stranger Things, which, if you've watched my channel, you know that I recently watched

Stranger Things. I wasn't into it back then, but now I am. And the whole purpose, the whole reason why he felt like he couldn't watch the show without sinning is because there's a scene very early on in the first season where Nancy, she's a high schooler, is kind of pressured into having sex with her boyfriend, and, you know, it's not like full frontal nudity or anything like that, but she takes off her shirt and stuff like that kind of thing.

And the article's actually pretty good, because I would say that for guys that that's a real issue for them, they probably shouldn't watch it, or, you know, fast forward it or something like that.

There's some decent advice in the article. But what I found so interesting and amazing, and this is really amazing, why is it that Tim Challies knows exactly what to do, what repentance looks like when you're watching, you know, a sex scene on TV with a woman?

You know, this is a natural desire. You know, a man's desire thinks a woman's beautiful and things like that.

That's actually natural, although they might take it too far to lustful thoughts and things like that.

Of course, that's definitely not correct for a Christian to partake in. But why does he know exactly what repentance looks like in that situation?

But for some reason, he can't, without getting a lot more information, without, you know, being ultimately nuanced and winsome and just squishy in every way, he doesn't know what repentance looks like when you desire a man, you know, in the same way.

Because here's the reality, like, we might not want to watch Nancy Wheeler take off her clothes on TV.

Yes, that's probably good advice for a lot of Christians. But let's not get it twisted. The desire that you might experience when you see her on TV take off her clothes is different, fundamentally, from the desire to have someone of the same sex.

These are different things, and it should be much easier to answer the second question than the first question.

But for some reason, Tim Challies is very comfortable saying that it would be a sin for him to watch Stranger Things, but not this one.

And I've got some suspicions as to why that's the case. But let's just continue this response, and we'll go forward from there.

In Christianity, we see a wide spectrum of professed Christians who are saying, that's absolutely, utterly wrong in every way.

Even the desire or the tendency toward homosexuality is itself sinful. Other people lining up more that know the tendency itself or the temptation itself is not sinful.

That's something that if you're a public Christian in this way, you need to be prepared for. And I think that it's natural for the audience to expect to hear from you on issues like this.

Tim a question about a very important topic to the questioner. It's just an important topic for Christians in general today.

Then he moves into saying, well, there are some people that say this. We're still figuring this out as a church.

There are some people that say that the homosexual desire is something that needs to be repented of.

And then there's other people that say, well, how could you repent of your desires? No, you don't have to repent of your desires or thoughts in that way.

No, you have to just repent if you actually act on it. So just don't act on it. And Tim, with all due respect, we already know that there are multiple sides to this debate.

Here's the reality. Believing the wrong things about what God has said and believing the wrong things about God, that's actually a sin.

The existence of these disagreements means that somebody is sinning in the process. I think that in some instances it's very clear to see who's doing that.

It's very clear to see in this debate on same -sex attraction and all of that, who is departing from what the scripture clearly says.
