All right. You're you're opening your eyes water. Jeff Stroud and me. Good evening everyone and welcome to our battle study. Well No. Tonight we're at the Shipley's the new mr. And mrs. Shipley's house.
Mr. Shipley is in there cooking dinner. Mrs. Shipley is sitting beside me. But anyways, we are we are at. I showed Jeremiah's new place and it's wonderful. It's beautiful. It's nice and clean. Everything I'm not used to.
But Welcome to the Bible our Bible study tonight. Like I said, we're at the Shipley's and this is Aisha's Third time including. You look so short. Like they do the kids in the car, that's not funny that happened to me.
Being nice and not saying what kid. Sorry, everyone. But anyways, I'm Vicki and everyone knows Mercedes we have Jordan on the side. She's over there in the big chair. And we like I said are with miss Aisha Shipley tonight.
We are Excited to be here Number one because it's the first time that I've been here and I it's a. So it's a cozy little apartment, I really like that. Are there lights up in it? Sorry, I'm sorry. Anyway, so we're talking about decor.
Let me speak up. Because a lot of people tell me they can't hear me anyways because they say. Really you have to talk like this all the time. Otherwise, nobody can hear you. Okay, so. Well, I was trying to speak up tonight it'd be loud.
We are exhausted today. Be honest, I'm really worn. Yeah worn thin today. I thought today was Friday and I was super excited. Oh, you got like that. I did. Well, I worked today like it was Monday and I that didn't make me happy at all but.
Work must be done and that's what they pay me to do. So that's what I did. So miss Aisha Mrs. Mistress Shipley. What scripture are we gonna be studying this evening? Galatians. Galatians 1 Verses 1 through 10 because everybody loves to make me read a lot.
Cool. All right, Paul and the fossils. Pause. Sorry. Galatians 1 1 through 10. Anything else is that the only place we're gonna be only place we're gonna be unless we decide to divert. Got you. That's all I have Mercedes.
Can we please read scriptures? Sure Paul an apostle not from men or by man. But by Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised him from the dead. And all and all the brothers who are with me to the churches of Galatia.
Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ Who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from this present evil age? According to the will of our God the Father to whom the glory to whom be the glory forever and ever.
Amen. I'm amazed that you were so quickly turning away from him. You by the great by the grace of Christ and returning to a different gospel. Not that there is any other gospel. But there are some who are troubling you and want to change the good news about the Messiah but even if we or an angel from heaven would should preach to you a gospel other than what we have preached to you a curse be on him as.
As we have said before I now say again. No one preaches to you a gospel contrary to what you received a curse be on him. For I am now trying to win the favor of fruit. For am I now trying to win the favor of people or or God?
I am I am striving to please. Am I striving to please people if I still if I. If I were still trying to please people I would not be a slave of Christ. Let me put it to you this way. Oh. So basically it's or Or am I striving to please or am I striving to please people.
Thank you, I would not be. You know, whoo, can I can I just put this down on the table? Um there are lots and lots and lots and lots of Churches out there that are not preaching and teaching the gospel.
And I did not realize How big it was and how misleading. Because you can sit there and think that they're preaching you that the the gospel of Jesus Christ when in all actuality they kind of Touched that just a bit just to get your taste buds.
Warning board, you know what I'm saying? Well, I skipped a rippin question and that question to you is why did you pick this. So my accountability group we don't discuss. We're on Facebook England oh y 'all are studying.
Yeah. Oh, yeah and After reading it like a lot of things stuck out to me. Actually a lot of things in there was kind of like a smack in the face and really just trying to hit home. Um. Like verse 6 in particular I Am amazed that you are so quickly turn turning away from him.
We called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel. And after reading that like I was thinking Well, the first time I read it. I was just kind of like, okay just kind of reading it to read it and then I read it again and Like really thought about it and I was like wow.
And it kind of reflects like so basically my thought process after Reading it again and actually reading it to understand it that. And I think I read a different version. I'll remember I think I read that ESB.
I have one in the car. I Am astonished that you are so quickly Deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel and after reading that It's kind of like our parents that give us everything.
Or everything that they think possible as a parent to teach us the ways of living and and as rebellious children Turn around and yeah, I know this is having that I'm right. Yeah, I know everything at it, right?
Well, maybe not all of us. I was. And I'm still wanting to do things my way. Even if I knew that it was the wrong way and I feel that way after reading this I was like we kind of did that to Christ like he gave us everything.
He gave us his son to die on the cross for us. He gave us grace and we didn't deserve it at all and even that we will I Understand yes God XYZ, but I still want to do this and It's either all he gave us he didn't have to give us that at all.
But he after reading that you're like stuff right there like we basically would give God. You know, yeah the middle finger or slap in the face like yeah, okay good. Yeah, you gave me all that thing kudos to you good.
Good job or whatever, but in our rebellious ways we still try to Please both worlds we try to please man and we try to please God. And so saying that the other verse that really got me. There we go. Sometimes different versions hit different.
Yeah. So the other verse that really stuck out to me was verse 10. It says for seeking the approval of man or of God. Or am I trying to please man if I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant.
I'm also very heavy.
Yes, well first Thessalonians 2 for our son, I'm waiting for all right first Thessalonians 2 for says instead just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. So we speak not he's entrusted us.
Six, you know turning away if he's entrusts us from with the gospel, then we shouldn't turn away. To try to please men because they didn't they don't trust us with we've been entrusted with the entire gospel.
And what are we supposed to do with it? What are we supposed to do others? Being go and make disciples of all nations. How do you do that? I should at work actually not as often I do have moments of opportunities that it presents itself either a patient's mom will say something or she realizes something about me and Like, you know, dr. Slickman was telling a mom today.
They're telling the kids sorry, but the mom was in there asked me what I did this weekend. He's like and I bet it was better than anything that you did this past weekend. He's like, okay. What did you do this weekend?
I said I got married. So the mom was asking me, you know, like how how I met Jeremiah and everything like that and in that and telling her I Got to share a little bit of my past. I was like, you know, I am NOT the same person that I was Two years ago you got to show your year.
Yeah. Yeah. Right and it was just it's the excitement of just saying oh she thought I was Married this weekend and leave it at that. But no, then she led a following question and that question, of course, I'm gonna tell you a little bit more I just tell you.
Oh, well, we were the driveway man. I'm at my best friend's house. Well, no I'm gonna tell you how I got to that point and You know, it was really cool because then she started asking me other questions and then of course, you know Appointment, of course, it was longer than that and then dr. Slugman chimed in he was telling, you know.
Talking about grace and everything like that. So it was like really cool the simple one thing just asking what did I do this weekend? What so all of that? And I actually ended up giving her my number because she said she really wanted to talk to me later.
And I don't normally give my number out to anybody especially patients, but I can really tell like she wants to know. So I was like, yeah, here's my number and everything and so we'll see how that goes.
You planted that seed. Yes, for sure. And I get a lot of opportunities sharing my testimony at work. Because I'm with patients at least for an hour hour and a half. So I got plenty opportunity to talk about whatever so and in those Questions always there's always a follow-up and then that follow-up always leads to something else and I just run with it.
And my doctors are totally cool with that, thank goodness. Because I mean we pray every morning and prayer requests praises. So that's just our office. We are built on that and it's phenomenal to work in an environment that way and they're not gonna stop you Got to cut it, you know, we got Aisha come on running your mouth that they will literally walk in the room here when I'm talking about and close the door.
And come back later. And it's like the coolest thing to actually be in an environment like that that allows us to talk about our faith. Because most jobs, you know that that's just not what you do, right?
But you can also. Also, just the way you carry yourself the way that you live the way that you Talk to people a lot of it a lot of it will have to do with. Just the way that you present yourself and speak to somebody else but I do know that Going back to the Turning to a different gospel.
That's really really really it scares me. To a point of So many people thinking that they're being fed the good porridge and it's the bad word yeah, I mean because so many people think that they're going to church every Sunday and Their preacher prays and he stands up there and he can either be real calm or and whatever once in a while Rick lift his voice or whatever, but you people really need to pay attention to what's actually coming out of their mouths.
I mean because if you're not finding out While you're at church if you're not Hearing that Jesus Christ is the Lord and Savior and The only way to the Father is through him at some point in time during that 30 to 45 minute Speech that some of them just give.
Then you're not getting what but also always always go back and double-check what he's been told. You can't compare it with scripture every time. Oh, yes. Even someone who isn't trying to feed you lies and is actually speaking truth might they might get something wrong.
They're human. They're gonna. They're going to make a mistake. Always don't check it up against scripture if it holds up great because like even now churches like don't preach.
What's in the Bible? But they manipulate it to fit whatever but going back to like how to tell if a church is teaching truth for the. You know, we talk about it in our church of praying your little prayer and we joke about it, whatever but dead serious until I got came to when I Genuinely thought that said please Lord come into my heart.
That's all I had to do to be saved. Like Genuinely thought that and then I that was the reason I rebelled because I kept thinking that's so stupid. Like that is so dumb. Like why would a God that? Created everything and does all only require that only Require me to say please come into my heart and then everything's fine.
Magical. Yeah, and then you can keep it. You have all of your faith Based on that one thing. It is so easy for the world to come in and say Check yourself. Because I'm Garrett. I'm about to show you that you're not as strong in your faith as you are.
And the next thing you know, you're so deep into the world that you do not know how to get out.
Well, and that's where a lot and I'll say this. And it's not cooking. But it's not just I mean a lot of it is Like your age and Y 'all's age. I mean well, but in Mercedes is almost at that not your age anymore, but there are a lot of there.
There are a lot of people that are under the age of 30. Oh. That's still me. And You're almost not there today is your birthday. One more year to you. But there are a lot of people. And I kid you not say halfway to 60.
There's just a lot of people that. Like pastors kids and and I'm not saying I'm not saying our pastors kids because our pastors kids would get The food. Yeah, but I know I know a pastor's children or I have no Pastor children that like they party and they do this they do that.
But but they turn around again. They're at church on Sunday. You know, and it's like you're so far from being What you're pretending to be you're not. You're not. You know, but now it's it's it's very very very dangerous.
Because of what's being taught it's just not the truth not being taught everywhere. Right. Because we realize that me and Murr at a previous church. Like we I've never heard of doctrine now, we've never heard the words grace or justification glorification.
Well, I remember hearing about grace and mercy but not in depth of grace and mercy. I was just like, oh, it's another word. Okay, grace and mercy fantastic next. And we moved on like it was never Explained it never was like let's dig into this grace and mercy.
Yeah. And and everything I feel like a lot of churches I've been to it's been so surface level. Like they just tell you, you know, God loves you this be good share the word. You know your testimony walk walk.
Just pray about it all this kind of stuff. It's just very just right up here. But it wouldn't we're getting all that meat and that's what's important like you have to understand like a lot of people I mean they tell you in business school when you read something.
It's like did you understand what you just read? No, I just read it because you told me to. Let's actually dissect it. Let's pull it apart. Let's read it. I want you to understand this because it could be something I could told you to read something and you not even agree with it.
But you just did what I said. So, you know, it's almost like you're lying to yourself. You're just like, okay fantastic. Didn't learn anything didn't grasp anything. Nothing was like, oh wait. No, I don't believe that.
At least I Think it's 22 times In Scripture and it tells us to meditate. To dwell on it to pour out to pour over not read. Meditate that don't mean yoga. Yeah. You know. Dive into it. Like she said dissect it pull it apart and Find what it's actually saying.
But one verse at a time.
Going like The surface level that everybody preaches at this point the product of what they're making. When they plant those seeds they're making such superficial People and it takes it makes me think of I think it's Matthew said don't put me on it.
Where it talks about the parable of the sower and he plants the seeds in all different places. He drops them as he walks along and when he dropped some in the rocky levels, I always think of it because most of them in all of the situation I can put myself in when I Decided to not Go about my faith when I've decided to turn away.
But the most one that I can think of is the one that he put in the rocky path. When everything's fine, everything's fine but the minute I was got in college and the minute I was tested by everybody else that did not believe and All of my professors were preaching or teaching things that were against what I have been taught all my life.
There was nothing there for me to rely on. Because there was no debt. And so because of that it was so easy for me to go. You know what? They might be right. Because there was no way for me to prove What I believed and because I couldn't prove it to them.
How was I gonna prove it and convince myself? Right. Yeah, so in that way, it was so easy to pick me apart. Because they never taught. What the meaning of grace mercy? Justification amputation adoption election.
Predestination for knowledge all of it and there's such important terms. Yeah.
Jordan said I'm way over here. Yeah. The the rocks but being Planted in the thorns of the thorns. I feel like I've been caught up in that sometimes like Living that double life almost going out and having a good time the next day be at church, you know praising God you know thinking I'm just you know, all this in a bag of chips or whatever and They'll start asking me questions.
I'm like Yeah. And you could just feel like the thorns and everything just yeah, I just Suffocating you. Yeah, and you're like, okay. I don't like this feeling.
The scariest part was reading the end of the chapter where it says those plants go into the front. It's like Well that really means, you know, they're all going to suffer in hell for eternity. It's like but I was that person.
Could have been me. Yeah, it could have been me. Thank goodness. Someone was relentless so. And that just makes me think all of the people that I grew up with in church church If you want to call it that that have no clue.
Yeah are being led astray.
I mean, there are people my age that are still that way. I mean, I know people right now today. That firmly believe and I don't know if they're really. If they're saved or not, I don't know that because I'm not God but all I can do is go by their actions and they're in if I see fruits of the Spirit in them and.
You know. When you have to struggle to find some fruits in somebody's life, there's a problem. So. Yeah, that's it and it really bites because people that are my age are very stubborn. Well, yeah because and in part of it is because.
Just like Jordan said. This is how they were raised and they stayed on that same path. They prayed that prayer when they were Seven and again when they were 12 and then again when they were 14 and again, you know what I'm saying and.
But but their life never changed. Nothing in their life. Ever changed. They still have a snotty attitude when it comes to. When somebody don't believe or think the way they do it don't even have to be about a church or anything like that.
Then they have a real snotty attitude that that's bad. It's just bad. When they're constantly take take take and never give give give. You know, and this is people that. But this is people that are that are my age, yeah, and it's like Buddy what are you doing?
And it's just bad too in the same sense like. All these years, you know, they've heard, you know. The gospel or whatever you want whatever you want to say and they believe it and when you try to tell them.
Otherwise, they're like, oh no, no, no, no, and they try to question you and it's like no. Seriously just trying to help you understand what I know they almost like brainwashing you for all these years.
But no, this is the honest truth and it's hard, you know. The whole God loves you, you know, I got a certain age, but yeah. The whole God loves you thing. Yeah God created everything. No, yes. Sorry. He doesn't love you the way that you are that's very very very true.
I love you just like you are. You're gonna you're gonna.
About them continuing to sin and Do this specific sin over and over again, and I was like, well, there's two things that are gonna come of it one you're not gonna face the consequences because you were never God's child to begin with and Two you are gonna face consequences and it is going to humble you.
With ways that you cannot imagine and see. This is the thing when you talk about. Consequences. I used to say How can that person just keep doing that without feeling any conviction? How can you keep.
How do you? How do you openly live in sin knowingly and Not feel conviction that in itself should make you think.
Yeah, but they don't see it when you are not a child of God you can not see it you don't see it that way.
Well, I'm here to tell you right now if you're openly living in sin and sinning constantly and you know It's a sin and you don't feel no conviction. Guess what? You need to check yourself.
Some of those people that you know constantly. Repentant whatever, but like I've said what is repentance to turn turn away from sin and turn to God. But my biggest. You were supposed to change. Yeah, you don't a change.
If you don't change that's not an apology. And you were never sorry, right? Anyway, right.
Just like repentance, you know, I do. Pastor Jeff's always uses go if you kick somebody in the shin, I'm sorry. You keep them again. I'm sorry and after so many sorry. Yeah, it's you're not stopping what you're doing unless you're two and you don't know about it, right.
But in Boy, we went way way way different. Oh, no, no, we covered everything that I talked about. Yeah, well this I put the verses there that I would like just reference to but yeah, we hit six and we hit first ten.
Perfect without even knowing. I knew we would.
Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ Who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from this present evil age? According to the will of our God and Father to whom be the glory forever and ever.
Amen, you know, it was cool is.
That present age was for them For our present day. Yeah.
Well, it's gonna apply regardless. But it is funny how you read things in in here and it's talking about how a Long time ago and it still applies now and then. I think of Ecclesiastes everything in this.
Has already been done. He gave us the gospel to share. It's so repetitive for a reason. Well in my Bible in my Bible this is on page 20 21. That's weird. Well, this is good. Chef Shipley is dinner about ready?
Chef Shipley says Yeah. Here pretty soon, you know, I think that what we're gonna start doing is we're gonna make start make this a foursome and let Jordan. Let Jordan sit in with us. Jordan is Learning.
But I want to thank you guys for having us tonight and I want to thank you for cooking dinner. Whose birthday is it? Oh, it's Mercedes birthday. I got the green one Mercedes. Anyways, we're not gonna have dinner.
Thanks for coming and joining us tonight for this wonderful Bible study. Push the button. It's very very very very very this is my job right now. So we figure out what will they never tell everybody. Hello.
Okay. Next week. All right, it's gonna take. Oh wait wait.
Next week just so you know will be pretty rewarded because next Thursday at this time, we will be on women's retreat and That next week will be it will be pre-recorded and we will have the youngest Shipley I.
Mean Naomi Naomi.
She could tell her about the original Shipley's. So Y 'all check us out next Thursday night. Like I said, it'll be pre-reported though. So Great. Yeah, it'll be great. Have a great week. All right.
