Revelation 16: The Seventh Bowl and the Finished Wrath of God

We see this time and time again in the book of Revelation. God executes judgment. They know it's God. They don't repent or give Him glory. Remember. That was every one of us at one point.

We got something going on on the 21st, don't we?

You mean March 21st? Yes, I do. Oh, are you talking about the Spring Break Block Party?

I am. Where on earth am I going?

You're gonna be at Witton Baptist Church which is 6773 Macon Road. It's right on the corner of Witton and Macon. Across from the Walgreens. We're gonna have free hot dogs. I like free. Popcorn Snow cone machine and Cotton candy.

Sunday Night Bible Study, New Baby Naomi Grace, and the Revelation Series

Good evening and welcome to Sunday Night Bible Study with Pastor Josiah Shipley of Witton Baptist Church. It is good to be with you again. My wife and I had our second child last week which is why we didn't have a video.

Baby Naomi Grace Shipley. She was born 6 pounds 13 ounces 19 and a quarter inch long. Her and Mama are doing great. I've loved having time home with them and now I'm back at it. Continuing our series on The Book of Revelation.

Next Sunday night I don't think we're having Sunday Night Bible Study because of the Block Party. However, I think we should still have a video to catch up with the in-person crew so we'll see how that works out.

But we left off on part 14. We left off in chapter 16 verse 8 which is where we're gonna pick up today. So again, we are continuing our series on the study of the Book of Revelation. If you haven't seen any of these, we have 14 videos so far on the Book of Revelation all archived on Witton Media Ministry.

That's Witton Media Ministry on YouTube. You can find some of them on Facebook at Witton Baptist Church. But for now, here we are. Revelation chapter 16 verse 8. I'm gonna go ahead and it's a little lengthy but I'm gonna go ahead and read the rest of chapter 16.

So get ready. I'm gonna read the rest of chapter 16 starting in verse 8. Revelation 16 verse 8. And they assembled them at a place that is in Hebrew called Armageddon or Mount Megiddo. Verse 17. Verse 18.

Wow. Alright. Remember our series of 7 judgments. We had 7 seals and 7 trumpets. 7 thunders which weren't recorded. And then 7 bulls. The bulls were most severe. Instead of doing a third of this and a quarter of this, it's normally total encompassing.

And they're mostly directed at unbelievers now instead of everybody. The fourth bull verse 8 Allows the sun to scorch people with fire. Verse 9. They were scorched by fierce heat. They cursed the name of God and the power of the plagues.

They did not repent or give Him glory. We see this time and time again in the Book of Revelation. God executes judgment. They know it's God, they don't repent or give Him glory. Remember That was every one of us at one point.

Every one of us. Not maybe with our words But in our actions. Did not give Him glory and did not repent. Until He awakened us. Verse 10. You'll notice, we talked about this last week. There's a lot of comparisons To the 10 plagues of Egypt.

And these 7 bulls We have water into blood, darkness Sores and pain. Boils. A lot of comparison there. Just like God was bringing His people out of that. And to the other side. So God is bringing His people out of this and to the other side.

Verse 11. They cursed God for the pains and sores. They did not repent of their deeds. Now look in verse 12. The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates. And the water was dried up To prepare the way for the kings of the east.

The Demonic Gathering for Armageddon

So then In verse 13 We have 3 unclean spirits. We'll call them demons. Coming out of the unholy trinity Is what we'll call it. The dragon, which is Satan. The beast, which is the antichrist. The false prophet, or the second beast Which is like the hype man for the beast.

Remember he's the one that hyped up the beast Made everyone want to worship him. Created the statue, well the image we'll call it. These demonic spirits That come out of them Are like frogs. They go out to the kings of the world To assemble them for battle.

Guys the battle of Armageddon. Mount Megiddo if you will. Which was already talked about in Revelation 14 And Is seen in detail At Jesus' return in Revelation 19 Is less of a battle And more of an execution.

Jesus comes and He wins. That's what happens. They can all assemble for battle all they want. Jesus destroys them all Except Satan. He locks him up in the abyss for a thousand years Just to release him later and beat him again.

That's just how He decided to do it. So on and so forth. Let's see what else We got here. They assembled at Armageddon. Remember Chapter 16 Finishes the seven bowls And with them the wrath of God is finished.

The reason Jesus doesn't return Until chapter 19 is because chapter 17 And 18 are just an in-depth look At what happened in chapter 16. So let's finish chapter 16. Verse 17. The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air And a loud voice came out of the temple from the throne Saying it is done.

There were flashes of lightning Rumblings, peals of thunder, a great earthquake Such had never been Since man was on the earth. So great was that earthquake. Notice the seventh seal The seventh trumpet And the seventh bowl all in the same way.

Flashes of lightning, rolls of thunder. Hail, earthquake. Which is one reason why it's possible To view Um These as Excuse me As the seventh one being on the same day. Let me put it to you this way. Let's say If I drew this out it would make more sense.

You know Seal one is not Trumpet one is not bowl one. I'm not saying that. But the seventh one seems to be ending the same way. So what if it was like this. Let's say I think that the seals Are like summertime Which ends on September 21st.

I think Let's say Um Let's say the trumpets Are like the first three weeks In September. And let's say the seals Are September 21st. Well if I say the seventh seal Is at the end of summer That's September 21st.

Again I can't remember if it's the 21st. Just roll with it. If I say the seventh Trumpet is at the end of the third week Of September That's September 21st. If I say The seventh bowl Is on September 21st.

We have all of them ending the same way Which may account for how the seventh seal The seventh trumpet and the seventh bowl All end the same way. Excuse me Just a thought Don't know can't be dogmatic About it At any rate One of the frustrations I have With people smarter than me Godlier than me.

Who say that most of the book of revelations already happened. Are verses like this. An earthquake so severe. There's never been one like it Since man was on earth. There have been I. So Do we Go and find where the greatest earthquake was On the Richter scale since we've been measuring them.

And that must be this. The fact that We're still here. And it says This earthquake is the greatest one that's ever Happened. Shows me that that earthquake Hasn't happened yet. Kind of like what Jesus said to Matthew 24 -25 When he said Such a time has never been Nor ever will be again.

I Think that hasn't happened yet. Not that it's not imminent. The great city I think we could Imply Jerusalem here. The great city was split into three parts. And the cities of nations fell. And God remembered Babel in the great To make her drink the cup of the wine of the fury of God's wrath.

Every island fled away. There was no more mountains to be found. There are still mountains. And great hailstones, a hundred pounds each Fell from heaven on people. They cursed God for the plague of the hail.

Because the plague was so severe. Some of your translation will say Seventy-five pounds a talent. Um That's huge pieces of hail. And they still don't repent For the most part. So Remember back in Genesis 1.

Um It goes through the creation account. The six days of creation. Well Genesis 2 retells In more detail day 6 of creation. It's not two creation stories. It's just a detailed account of what happened on day 6.

Well Revelation 17 and 18 Are just a detailed account of what happened in chapter 16. So There is the end of chapter 16. And chapter 17 and 18 Are details Of how Babylon the great The great prostitute is destroyed.

And what that is going to look like. So there you have it. That was a pretty quick video. Again that is the end of the seven bowls. It is finished. God said It is done. God said in verse 17 Kind of like what he said on the cross.

So When this happens I believe the very next thing that will happen Is the return of Jesus. In chapter 19 We're going to read 17 and 18 Which are just detailed accounts of what just happened in chapter 16.

Because that was rapid fire judgments. Okay very good. Alright um A little bit of a shorter video. I'm glad you guys have stuck with me During this series so far We're actually getting there. We have chapter 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22.

We have six more chapters. 17 and 18 Depict the fall of the great prostitute And Babylon the great. Chapter 19 is the marriage ceremony in heaven And Jesus' return. Chapter 20 is the thousand year reign And the great white throne Final defeat of Satan.

Chapter 21 is new heaven, new earth, new Jerusalem. And chapter 22 The river of life. And the final instructions From Jesus to John. Love you guys very much. I hope these are helpful to you in some way.
