From Reformed is not enough. Okay, now, oh, you're taking it out of context. Just listen.

And so when you�ve written a book saying �Reformed is Not Enough ,� you�ve disqualified yourself to get

We're not Reformed enough. We're not even Covenantal. So we want to give you guys an opportunity.

But that ain't what we're going to talk about today. Because today I want to talk about the other things that make us reformed. Because if you think that's all it is, you are missing so much more of the full -orbed understanding of what it means to be reformed.

The Reformed are drawn to this because they can feel like there's a lack of sincerity or they just don't feel saved. Justin, I can't tell you how many times I've had this conversation with people where I'm like, then you don't believe God's truth and promises and you're calling God a liar because you're saying this is what God requires of me to have assurance of my salvation.

On the back of Reformed is Not Enough is, I think, probably the best summary.

Third, Reformed Churches are just that, Reformed. We've changed. We've gone back to what the word of God says. Reformed Churches are a subset of Protestant Churches in that they believe that sinful humans are saved by the grace of God alone from eternity past to eternity future, and that we experience this grace of God earned for us by Christ alone.

And I'm finally old enough to say that I think I have enough decades to make some observations.

But what does reform me people ask? What's before me? Well reform shouldn't be just a slogan or a buzzword. It should be for real now the church in the Middle Ages went into captivity to paganism to superstition to the culture and was then Reformed as informed again during the Reformation.

Well, in his book, Reformed Is Not Enough, where he's trying to kind of shake up the reformed tree and

that he says, but he does not repudiate and change these articles and these books that he's written reformed

Yeah, I do, and, you know, back in the 80s, whenever we talked about a law, heresy is not enough, and

Reformers weren't perfect, they didn't get rid of all the unbiblical tradition they needed to, that is why, that is why we must continue to hold to Semper Reformanda. Don't sit here and tell me Karl Barth made that up, it's not true, it's been documented, and Semper Reformanda is the only way to consistently respond to the accretion of tradition over time, without exalting tradition to the place of ultimate authority over scripture, which is what we're dealing with when we deal with these various groups.

Out of the reformation came a phrase semper reformanda latin always reforming. And I want to end by saying this. I want to say the reformation has not ended and will not until Christ returns. We will always be looking back to scripture and seeking to be in confirmation to what it teaches.

These were the marks of a faithful church, coupled, of course, with lively faith, hope, and love. So, to be reformed means that we're absolutely committed to the soul and supreme authority of scripture, that you and I, by God's grace, subdue our hearts and minds, our doctrines, our practices, our very lives to the supreme authority of that word, that we preach it and teach it fearlessly, both law and gospel, and I love it that in your church walls are these two things that we primarily are to focus upon, the law of God and his will for us, and the gospel, the solution for us falling so woefully short of that will and to be renewed that we might live out of love according to the pattern of godliness of the scriptures.

I wanted to deal with a distillation of what it means to be a reformed evangelical. Because people who teach reformed theology differ on certain things that we would consider secondary issues. Things like eschatology is somewhat debated among reformed theologians as to what is and what isn't the right view.

This is still a gospel issue and we must stand firm against anyone and Anything that would seek to add something to the perfect finished work of God on our behalf. This is why we are still reforming. This is why we celebrate Reformation Day.
